Motor Trend NFGT testing

Actually a web search of various dyno tests of the 720S shows the RWHP at 700 or a little less. That is a lot of power.

I realize 720S has really stepped up the game. I just cannot get into its styling! GT all the way!!

Looks like Pobst was back at Willow Springs in the NFGT yesterday.

Couldn't Ford do an update the GT's power to around 750HP ?

Probably if they also updated the warranty from 36 months to 6 months. If that was possible without a reliability penalty I believe it would have been at that level from the start. Although the race cars have been pushed to near 1000HP in testing they only have to live reliably for 24 hours.

I don’t usually believe everything I read on the web, but a knowlegble person thinks Ford is bringing the Shelby GT500 back with 750HP.
Our 2005/06 GTs came with 550HP and I believe most of us bought the FRPP pulley/tune and exhaust, good for an extra 100HP.
Besides, this is Ford performance vehicle program, we don’t need no stinky warranty.

It would be interesting to get John Hennessey's thoughts on higher boost levels perhaps with 105 unleaded fuel and expected reliability

Serious question. What are you asking?

Hi BAT, I was reading the thread and later I read Motor Trend's "700HP Club" article and I thought it would make sense to add some power to the GT....
Several street cars are doing 700+HP: GT2RS, Corvette ZR1, 720S, F12, Aventador, etc.

The McLaren Senna is suppose to be over 800hp & under 3000lbs! We will have to wait & see.

At double the price, and with looks only a mother could love!

Can anyone in the know comment on a possible software upgrade to the NFGT to bump the HP similar to what other manufacturers have done in the past?

It's not happening. Any possible power increase on this powertrain would be trivial. The race car and street car powertrain are not the same. If you're concerned about HP relative to the market, I would not recommend buying this car and can point you in the direction of alternative cars that make more hp.

I'm still interested the NFGT and optimistic.
There will always be someone with more HP, I was curious if there will be a similar market strategy to whet ppls appetites. Thanks

GT - 647hp/3.5 = 184.9hp/L
GT2 RS - 700hp/3.8 = 184.2hp/L (with water injection)
488GTO - 700hp/3.9 = 179.5hp/L
720S - 710hp/4 = 177.5hp/L

Pretty impressive for an F150 motor, making more power per liter than those purpose built engines. To get any more power, you'd probably need water injection like the GT2 RS has, which still doesn't make the same power per liter as the GT.

Would hate to think that the powertrain in the GT is stressed to the max, and that ANY power increase would be critical.
Surely 680-700HP would be within the safe limit of the engine and transmission...

Iirc, the highest HP/L car out there is the CLA45 AMG at 187.5hp/L (375/2).

There's no replacement for displacement.

Got it, Stuntman !
Thanks

Risking massive internal damage out of warranty for a 5-7% increase in horsepower just does not make any sense.

Just slap a Whipple or twin turbo setup on your 05/06 and you'll handily beat any of those cars. And for a whole lot less money.

There is no room for performance improvement on the NFGT motor without big tradeoffs. Thats not why you should buy a NFGT.
