Ford Performance to Extend Production of All-New Ford GT Supercar an Additional Two Years

Ford Performance will offer the all-new Ford GT for two additional production years, bringing the production commitment of the carbon fiber supercar to a total of four years

Potential customers who already applied to purchase Ford GT will only need to update their request when the next application window reopens in early 2018

Additional production supports Ford Performance decision to race Ford GT in both IMSA and World Endurance Championship (WEC) series for four years

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Aug. 19, 2016 – Applicants and fans of the Ford GT can rejoice as Ford Performance is adding two more years of production for the all-new carbon fiber supercar. The announcement comes on the heels of letters sent to potential customers notifying them of their application status to purchase the car.

The additional production supports the recent decision by Ford Performance to race Ford GT in both IMSA and World Endurance Championship (WEC) series events for four years.

“While we can’t build enough Ford GTs for everyone who has applied, we are going to produce additional vehicles in an effort to satisfy more of our most loyal Ford ambassadors,” says Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “We want to keep Ford GT exclusive, but at the same time we know how vital this customer is to our brand.”

Year three of production will support applicants who were placed on the wait list; previously deferred applicants and those who missed the initial application window will be served by production year four. The application process for fourth-year production will reopen in early 2018. Those who already applied to own the car will only need to update their request.

“Ford GT has racing in its blood,” says Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president, product development, and chief technical officer. “The road car and race car will live on, side-by-side, for the next four years – providing ample opportunity to test and prove innovative new technologies both on and off the track.”

Gentlemen,

I've said from the day the first letters went out to those not selected, stay positive and stay in the game. You are never beat until you quit. The Ford Motor Company has clearly demonstrated they understand the passion that GT owners have for both the car and the company. Undoubtably there will still be some disappointment when it's all over. But I really believe that GT owners who genuinely want a NFGT, not to flip it for $, but to drive it and love it like our current GT's are, will get one. I imagine (but don't know) wait list applicants are now future owners. And deferred applicants are back in the game. Let's roll. God bless the Ford family, Raj, Dave, and DBK.

That's very good news ... Just need to find a way to fast forward time to 2018

Kudos to FMC, this is really awesome

Bears repeating, but Waitlist is officially year 3. Congrats.

But doesn't seem us deferred people will get any preference, I think the "wait list" people are in good position, but now we deferred folks are just in the pot again with 6000 more applicants.

This is GREAT NEWS for those on the “wait” list, those on the “differed” list, and the entire Ford GT community.
Glad to hear more will have an opportunity to be included in this New Ford GT ownership experience.
:cheers

GREAT NEWS for entire Ford GT community.:thumbsup

Positive thoughts!!!
I AM a 4th year owner!!!

Very nice Ford (Raj!). Thank you for continuing the production to give more Ford fanatics a chance to own this special car.

Everyone should keep in mind that producing a car like this is a huge headache for Ford, which isn't in the supercar business year after year; Ford isn't likely to make as much money on these cars as people may think; and producing the cars in years 3 and 4 isn't required to race them in those same years. The decision to continue the production run seems less like a hard-nosed business calculation and more like a sincere effort to reward Ford fans. Let's not prove the adage that no good deed goes unpunished.

Oh goody, more cars = lower cost

"In an interview with @FordOnline, Raj Nair, head of product development and Chief Technical Officer for Ford, revealed that the majority of GTs actually went to previous GT owners. Nair claims that 69 percent of selected applications own the previous iteration of the GT. For non-math majors, that comes out to 345 GTs that are going to existing GT owners."
