The New Shelby GT350

I don't think they've said curb weight publicly but the regular R weighs roughly 130 lbs less than the track pack GT350, which is similar to regular Mustang GT. GT curb weight starts at about 3700, so dry weight base model R is probably in the mid-high 3400s, based on 16 gallons of fuel, 8 quarts of oil and whatever other coolant/fluids it holds. It's rare that anyone I talk to over there discusses dry weight. They are big on curb weight.

There is a lot of vacant real estate in the valley of these mod motors. I'd love to see some turbos in there.

Reason why I asked - Cars have really grown - Curb Weight of the 1965/66 Hardtop with a Six Cylinder engine and standard 3-speed transmission was 2,610 lbs, 2,770 for the convertible & 2,640 for the fastback. V8s added the additional weight of engine, larger brakes and wheels and some other additions, but probably no more that 100-250 lbs extra, depending on options.

Shelby GT350's had a curb weight of 2,490 lbs in '65 & 2,620 in '66 (street versions).

True Ralphie, but the old Mustangs were death traps in comparison.

You think so? It's still accounts as one of the best cars for aftermarket parts sales....

Here's mine in Yosemite valley yesterday coming home from Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey...

And, I'm planning on driving it to Dallas in a couple of weeks...

Nice car. Don't get me wrong, I love vintage Mustangs. My point is that much of the added weight is due to the safety features incorporated into modern cars (that, and the doo-dads which are now considered necessities).

Beautiful scenery Ralphie.

I love your fastback Mustang too. Own a 66' myself, tho only since 85'.

Deliveries will start late summer/early fall. Can order now.

From your local Ford Factory Outlet Store. Order banks opened over Memorial Day weekend.

My neighbor ordered a yellow GT350 at MSRP (tech pac) last week from our little podunk Sandpoint dealer and was given a fall target but not a specific date.

First time I have seen a cross over that was not at 5250 rpm.

Great numbers tho.

The hp and tq scales are different on this chart, probably just to make it look better. Resolve that and they do cross at 5252.

So as PeteK would say, for a bonus round,:wink

Why do the torque and HP plots intersect at a value of 5252 when both the Y1 (typically HP) and Y2 (typically torque) are the same numeric scale? :confused

This is the head of the google search:
