Seems a bit optimistic. I frankly wouldn't have expected it to beat the Z/28, let alone by that margin.

Maybe Ford has really done their homework here. Based on today's Rolex victory, that's not too hard to believe.

Let's see a stateside magazine racetrack comparison.

My Ford dealer suggests that the R may be under allocation also. Bummer, looks like a really nice piece. If they beat the price of the Z/28 by the $ equivalent of 5 seconds at the 'Ring, that would be cool.

That said, the R is stupid fast on a road course.

Maybe it's like the camaro hot laps, where the finish line was before the start line, visually via on board video....

Again ring times are not comparable no matter where they come from.
 
Nah, just funnin 'ya. The interesting thing about driving at that place, is that it seems nearly impossible to duplicate one of your own laps, much less get a comparable one to another car.

My memory of a typical visit is of finally getting one decent lap, then followed by some really bad laps. Just when you think you can optimize some section of the track, or achieve any kind of repeatability, you drive too far into one corner, and ......et.al. One mistake just kills you, it about 14 miles around. The locals have a huge advantage that visitors do not enjoy.

In this regard, I highly recommend the Cockpit Bar, conveniently located at the neighboring Nurburgring F1 track. You can drink your way to record times. :biggrin
 
Well only what, 70 turns? And many NASTY? How could that be any issue... And at 13 miles, fuel becomes an issues quickly if putting together more than one or two. Will go there some day for sure.
 
The new GT.... let's just say it may have set a all time record. Our Canadian boys need to speed up the CF production.

Read a GM article that the Z/28 lap time was on a wet track and they unofficially ran a 7:31 in the dry. I'm not sure why someone would have an official time in the wet, but whatever.

In any case, very much looking forward to seeing the new R
 
The ring mostly rewards setup. On a lot of these publicity runs you simply don't know what they've put under the car. And if it actually is stock, well then it's up to how tunable the stock dampers are and what spring rates they chose for the package. It's a tough track for a mass produced street car to do well on. People like to poo-poo the ring times for that reason, but it is without question the most demanding circuit out there for overall agility.
