Takata airbag recall

They are supposedly not Replacing the air bag itself but a device or part of it which the service writer called "actuator". Parts due in next week and the 05 will go in. I will post what they do. Don Reid ford in maitland has excellent service department and Rick is very fine GT tech. They have always done great job for us.

Furthermore, once the corrosion chemical reaction begins, it will continue, at lower levels of the amount of water vapor in the air to which it is exposed.

In other words, rust never sleeps!

Received my recall notice on 10/31/14 (last Friday). My 05 was sold in Fl but has been in CA since 07. Called local dealer in Orange, CA. to set an appointment for recall. Service dude tells me I have to bring it in so a tech can look at it! I ask him if they have the replacment parts and he tells me you have to bring it in first. Can't you check with parts first? I ask why would I bring it in if you don't have the recall parts so I can make two trips! Disengage with service idiot. Called Ford Customer Service, nice guy who apologized for the bad info from dealer, actually admits the don't have the bulletin to the dealers yet and parts are to go out in third quarter. I tell him it's November so it's the fourth quarter. I press him, he tells me I should get a further letter. Why don't I believe anyone at Ford at this recall.
I'll call another dealer tomorrow and start over.
Jimmy

Don't you hate when idiots attempt to pee on your leg as they tell you it's raining!? Especially when they are REALLY bad at lying!

The replacements might be worse...bad storage, handling, QC

If true, that portends very bad news for Takata. The Feds and class action lawsuits are coming.

Interesting just received my recall notice for my 2006 GTH, which spent only one year in Florida with HERTZ and the rest in NY or WY. I thought the recall was limited to "Southern/ humid" climates?

Got my recall notice this week. Anyone have a dealership in Louisiana they trust??

My advice. Trust any dealership no more than you'd trust "Bubba's screen door repair and taxidermy emporium" to work on your car. No matter how good their reputation is, it's not their baby as it is yours. Take a day off work and insist on babysitting with it, no matter how well they come recommended.

I just received a letter for one of my cars. They booth are 06's. I got one for the earlier build car # 438 but nothing on the later built car #1749. The 1749 car was sold to me from a northern dealer but it's been in Florida since 06.. Has anyone taken in their cars for the procedure? I am going to contact my local tech to see what the details are..

Same story as your #1749. I bought my car new from an Illinois dealer. It has always been registered and located in Florida. I've received nothing yet. The affected manufacturers are performing triage now, but there's no doubt all the cars with the part at issue, regardless of location, will be recalled.

Had mine done on red car yesterday. Both sides replaced. Acctuators only. Took about a hour. They were not rusted or corroded.

How much of the car comes apart? Do you get a new steering wheel cover ?

Just received my letter today....is the repair something that we can trust any Ford dealer to look after? Brian...I'm curious too..my cover is perfect.

I got one good one and one bad one.. I was hoping to get a new one for the Red car,,:biggrin

By K-P's post above sounds like all cosmetic parts are unchanged. Opened up and actuator is swapped.

"Both sides replaced. Acctuators only"

That's correct. It is on back of airbag. I took pictures but IFAD will not let me post. Will get my teenager to figure out how to post pics.

Here are pics. This is spare drivers airbag NOT from my car. This is acctuator. You can see surface corrosion on it.

Is our isssue with corrosion the same as the airbag issue that's in the National spot light? That one is dealing with a metal part that will fly out and stab you.. I've never heard them say anything about corrosion... I'm sorry if I'm out of the know. I haven't read all of the details of the recall...

Yes. Same problem.

Those actuators look like and can act like little land mines. I wonder how they will be safely disposed of.
