I've been scouting good drives for the GT....

Obviously the 20 mile strip from Santa Monica to end of Malibu is gorgeous....

From Newport I would have to hop on the 405 for 40 miles and then the 10 to ocean Blvd in Santa Monica

Is there an easier route ?

Did it in the Vette today and was a bear coming back....

Nope

Ironically, I-405 sucks 1100 miles north too.

I drive the gt on the 405 from Santa Monica blvd north to the valley when need be. Traffic can be difficult. Sometimes take it down to el segudo to visit a friend.

Kayvan,
The only time the 405, between Newport Beach and Santa Monica, is not jammed is 10:00pm to 6:00am. Even the weekends are miserable now.
If you have a co-pilot at least you can get in the commutor lane.
Let me know next time you want to hit the Santa Monica to Malibu run. You drive right by me in Pacific Palisades.
I'll be happy to show you Mulholland's finest curves up on the Malibu mountains.
Early Saturday or Sunday mornings will allow us to get some breakfast or lunch and you back down the 405 ahead of the afternoon build up.

That was exactly my thought Kevin. The Malibu Mountains are awesome to tool around in. I stay East being in Riverdonkey and go over to Oak Glenn, Cherry Valley, Yucaipa . . .

Okay sounds like a plan...

Have you ever seen the SNL skit called The Californians?

I just saw it like 2 weeks before I left

Lots way out dudes with upspeak

Every conversation is like 5, 405, 10, Pico,
and why not the other route

'Just Googled it.

'Further proof BONY (God rest him) was right...Cali is the land of fruits and nuts...and evidently a lot of 40 IQs as well. :frown

You can always tell when T.V. and radio commercials up here are trying to be "local" but are really from Southern California.

THE 5
THE 405
THE 90

How we Northerners say it;

I-5
I-405
I-90

:lol

In ARIDzona the locals refer to THE 101...THE 202...THE 60...THE 10...THE 17, etc. 'Must be THE Cali influence!

Wifey told me something I guess I never new. The odd number interstates run north and south and the even number run east and west. I know I live a sheltered life. When I was going to school there in the late 60's early 70's thing were much less crowded.

Isn't it interesting that a number of Interstate Highways don't even go interstate, all of them in HI and AK for example!

I believe the also start numerically on the southern and western borders and grow in value as the go north or east.

This has been a standard for many years - the old "US" highways were the same.

What about ring roads - I.e., The Capital Beltway around DC - 495?

3 digits are connecting roads to one of the others interstate numbered roads.

KJRGT is correct. If you come up on a weekend to Santa Monica, do it before noon, return on the 405 before 3 or find an alternative route back to OC. 405 south at the 10 is solid from 4PM tp 7PM. Breaks up a little south of the LAX area. Traffic is bad all over. Even leaving OC going east to Temecula, going out easy coming back a bear.
