If you were to buy a 12 Cylinder Exotic/Classic what would it be?

Get an old Pantera ($35k) and new MV Agusta. You'll have your 12 Italian cylinders and a chunk of change for repairs and race gas. BAM, problem solved.

Pantera's have American cylinders!

Zonda!

I'm personnally not that crazy about Ferrari's but when I see a 250GTO aaaah. Of course one needs to count on a 460k. cheaper already the 512BBI but not really that

Now don't get me wwrong here because I am true Ford GT backer all the way but it is a funny thing that Ferrari is the brand that is always being compared to. That tells me something. Even Henry Ford wanted to buy the company. And if I'm not wrong (as I have been many times), didn't Ford buy a 360 to "use" when developing the new GT? As Fubar says "I'm just sayin'".

Nothing beats a Ferrari exhaust note....nothing. Their handling & braking are superb. Just no local dealer, even the necessary service and parts are way too high, have to have that special "stamped" service book for the resale, depreciation is a bummer on most models, ....but if I lived closer to a dealer that wouldn't break it off in me and would let me borrow his "stamp" I would buy another.

And you can have all the Lambos, Audis (heck , aren't they VWs anyway?), Maseratis, Astons, Jaguars (except old 6cyl XKE covered headlights...just for garage art), BMWs, Porsches, Mercedes (even though I have 2)....I will stick with my Ford Gts, Corvettes, and maybe a Ferrari again one day (under above conditions).

"Ferrari V-12s have the most incredible exhaust note....even the V-8s....yes, even better sounding than a Ford GT. Ferrari exhaust is just intoxicating....like no other."

"Biggest problem with a Ferrari would be resale. All the anal buyers want that "perfect" documented car. They want the Ferrari books & service stamps up to date with the 15K & 30K services performed. You might consider buying a stamp and "document" the books yourself" lol.

I agree. LOVE the exhaust note of the Ferrari's. It is a fun car to drive and I enjoyed the F1 as much as the manual.

That said the maintenance is ridiculous and Nardo is completely right. Unless you get every service done by an authorized dealer and have it documented as such it is going to seriously hurt your resale value. That scared me off as well. If I was going to buy and hold the car forever I would not care. But the only car I can say that about is my FGT........:thumbsup :cheers

575 or 550?

I completely forgot about the 6.0 twin turbo sl65!!! I believe maintenance would be easier(less expensive) and it makes a great lead sled! 4200lbs hard top convertible capable of 700hp and 800tq is not all bad!!!!

double post...

575 or 550?

I am no Ferrari expert but I did a lot of research when I was thinking about it. Quality of the 575's are significantly better/more reliable.....particularly the F1 cars. Ferrari made a big leap in the reliability of the F1's in the 575's. The 550's supposedly eat the clutch often, particularly if you drive in a lot of stop and go traffic. :cheers

Can one be BOUGHT for $100K or under???

I have a BMW 850CSi, owned it now for 5 years and it is a truly great car, too heavy to be a true sports car, but a real motorway stormer with fantastic high speed stability, and it has been totally reliable. Also owned a few Porsche 928's over the years, including the GTS with a manual trans. which would for me rank alongside the CSi.
If it had to be exotic, with 12 cyl, the Ferrari Boxer for me is king. Have owned two of them, one injected and one carb 512. probably one of the most beautiful cars made by Ferrari, the last truly hand built model, a gem engine that is smooth, torquey and sounds unlike anything else.

Ferrari 512BBi

Last of Modern Ferraris not to need 2yr/3K belt service

Reliability and cost aside, 12 Cyl E-Types just dont sound as good as Italian 12s. How much maintenance with an occasional drive Testarossa? They seem to have hit bottom.

I have always had a thing for the E-types with the 12 cyl. that is one my all time favorites. My second would be a testarossa.
