Color and value in todays market

As I have mentioned before on this Forum: My GT is the first thing I see when I enter my garage and the last thing I see when leaving the garage. How bad can a day be when it starts with THAT view......

mine is still in the original bag also....love looking at my cars when I'm in the garage!!

History is more important than Heritage.

Only 75 yellow GTs were produced in 2006. The original GT40 show car was yellow. In the abstract, nobody want's a faggoty ass yellow car so very few Ford dealers ordered them. In the flesh however, they are very attractive and draw a lot of attention. The few yellow GTs that exist sell at a premium to most other GT colors. Although Heritage GTs bring the most money, they are twice as common as yellow GTs.

I did not want a yellow GT.......until I saw one. Then, no other color would do. Tim Cantwell and FlorIdaho Chris did not want a yellow GT.......until they followed my yellow GT to Rally II. Now they both have one.

But if you want the most valuable GT you can own, buy any color and drive it a lot. Take it to the track. Run it at the Mile. Explore the upper reaches of its capabilities and drive it in a manner that you would not allow anyone else to drive it. After a couple years, the intense experiences you have shared with her will make your GT priceless to you. When you see the look in the eyes of an old race car driver who gets behind the wheel of an automobile he raced many, many years ago, you'll understand. To that driver, the car he pushed to the limit, risked his life in, and succeeded, or failed in, holds a special significance. Other examples may have lower miles or be in better condition, but they lack the most important component that makes a car valuable to a man. A shared history.

At least, that's my take on it.

Heritage cars cost the most. Period. You either like them or don't. They may be worth more everything being equal but you are going to pay more.

Black is next. Black is awesome but would drive me nuts keeping it perfect. Very high maintenance.

Yellow is awesome. If I got a second FGT it would be yellow for sure.

Red is the most reasonably priced since "they made more in red". Reality is there aren't alot of FGT's around with only 4000 made originally and maybe 3000 approx still in the country without salvage titles and "stories"

I chose Red because I thought the car looked best in Red. Its a classic color the the Ford GT. In short I wouldn't trade it for any other color. Point...buy the color you love the most.

Low mileage cars in my opinion are not a smart buy if you are going to drive the car. You pay a premium and that premium evaporates the minute you start putting mileage on it.

You may want to look whether the FGT has upgrades too which seem to add to the value especially if done by qualified specialists like the GtGuy. Just make sure that the original parts that were taken off are with the car and go with the sale. That is important.

Any well cared for FGT I believe will be desirable in the future IMHO and hold their value as good or better than most and perhaps increase in value in the future regardless of color.

I have never owned a car like the FGT where I, the minute I got it, also started looking for one more, just in another color combo. I´ve had more than my fair share of special cars over the years, but I have never had a car that I just wanted to stock up on in different colors like the FGT.

I will bet you that no matter how much research you do to figure out the perfect color for you, soon after your first months of ownership, you will play with the idea of getting one more ........ :wink:biggrin

RED is the best in all respects. If you do a search (and you may not have access to all info since you are not a paying member), there are data tables here by color and options. In general, silver and yellow cars are few. No stripe cars are rarer. Value of rarer cars? Depends if you willing to pay for it. Heritage cars were more expensive to begin with because of the paint scheme. Low mileage cars bring more. ShelbyElite in Arkansas is probably the biggest reseller of GT's. E-bay prices are not realistic.

Dr. Frank even has red boxers!!! Everyone knows Tungsten is the 40th anniversary color, fastest color for its neutral aborption and deflection of photons, lower wind resistance, and overall awesome appearance. Other colors just don't add up! :banana

Agreed on almost every point. I have Heritage, silver, yellow and red.....so I feel I can offer an unbiased opinion (my 2 cents lol). The only point I disagree is red being the least valuable. It would be next to the bottom...the bottom being white. Whenever I see a white car for sale it never brings "all the money" . They made a lot of white cars as well as red. Red is just a "sports car color"..period. Red Corvettes, red Ferraris...red is just a great color on pretty much any sports car. For anyone interested you shoulddefinitely buy the color you like. Red was my first color choice, the first GT I bought and still remains my favorite.

Here is my take in 2 views. One being my personal view...the other being what I "think" is best for investment.

Personally based on color alone.
1. Red 2. Black no stripe 3. Yellow 4. Heritage 5. Silver 6. Dk Blue 7. White 8. Tungsten

Based on "potential resale"
1. Heritage 2. Black no stripe 3. Yellow 4. Silver 5. Dk Blue 7. Tungsten 8. White

Of course, prototypes (Nardo), one-of ones (Sonic Blue) etc not included .

It's OK, Chip. Quick Silver GTs don't get any props either.

These cars are proof that beauty is more than skin deep. Everything about these gals radiates beauty from every angle. Buy the color you like, drive her, and enjoy her. As far as resale goes, I too plan to pass mine along to my son.

Pick your favorite color .I swear what ever color you get you will love .Buy the GT to use and ,enjoy.
The only investment a car is your enjoyment.

I was impressed !!!
As the Mastercard ad says PRICELESS !!!

Having met your daughter, this valentine's card only serves to reinforce how insightful she is! Buy her a stint at a Driver's School for her valentine's day present, before you get to old to drive that Blue car!

The Gt is the baseline for all Supercars. Its timeless design and performance speaks for itself.
I always enjoy watching Top Gear and seeing how the new Sports cars/Super cars compare with out 4 year old Gt's on the track time list .Bare in mind all the new cars have plenty of drivers aides .(to our none!!)top gear.jpegThis episode was the F430
After 4-5 years still up pretty high on the list !!

WOW , The responce to this is awsome. What a great bunch of guys. When i see the members takeing the time to do this it makes me appreciate the Forum even more.
I can only add what happened to me for you to consider.
There were no cars near my area to look at when i was ready to buy so i could only look at them on the Net. Color was not an issue for me i just happened to get a red one.

Let me just say that they look differant in person then they do in pictures.
When i saw an 06 Tungsten in person i was blown away, They are stunning,
I would still be happy with any of the choices.
You will know what the right color is for you when you see it.
Good luck on it.:cheers

Sorry, but you are wrong on this Chris. Coming from someone that does this day in and day out and have sold many of every color GT available, White brings more than Red. PERIOD. I have hard facts. I dont have problems selling a red car, so please do not misread my statement, but White will definatly bring more than a Red GT. Red is and has always been the cheapest selling GT due to the production numbers. Will it change over time? Who knows..., but I can tell you from hard facts that this list below is pretty accurate.
Color in order of CARS RETAIL VALUE:
1. HERITAGE
2. BLACK- NO STRIPE
3. BLACK w/ STRIPES
4. MIDNIGHT BLUE
5. TUNGSTEN
6. QUICK SILVER
7. YELLOW
8. WHITE
9. RED

Now, everyone can argue all they like. Simple fact is, the numbers above are based on near 300 Ford GTs that I have sold, not including hundreds more that I have followed the sale of very closely. This is my day Job and I follow it more closely than anyone I know. Now, I personally like the Ford GT in every color it was produced in and I think Ford did a GREAT job in picking colors. Obviously Red is popular, but this statement is in regards to value. The list above is as close as its gonna get for now.
All you guys with Red cars...... We still love ya! :thumbsup

Buy the color you like best.

I bought black w/stripes because I found a deal at a fuzz under list that saved me ~10K at the time. I wish to this day I'd have paid more for blue w/stripe or silver no stripe - the colors I really wanted.

Having said that, I LOVE my GT - no matter what color it is...

This is the best way to put it. Buy what appeals to you. If you pay $30k more for a black no stripe, chances are you will get that back when you sell it. Save $30k and buy a Red one, and its still a wash. In the end, buy what your heart tells you. Enjoy the car. If you are buying cars for INVESTMENTS, you would be much better off just buying a CD and calling it a day.

Can our forum un-official and official experts comment and rank the re-sale value of stripeless cars? Heritage off course excluded. I'll start by saying the following; un-officially of course:

1. Blk
2. Blu.
3. Silver
4. Red
5. Yellow
6. Tungsten
7. White

This is just my personal opinion, but having bought a red and a blue no-stripe car, I don't think any of them are worth near as much as black, and they are so muddled below it's just going to make your head hurt figuring it out. I constantly hear people looking for no-stripe black cars, but I rarely hear them out there looking for anything else without stripes. I paid a higher price for the red no stripe than the blue, but that was because it was on MSO and had virtually no miles.

The Waldo stable.

Waldo,

If my business ever turns around and I start making money again, my 2nd GT will be Quicksilver with Black stripes. If I really make a lot of money, I want to buy your other ride as well!!!
