1 of 250? Where do these stats come from... VIN# 1FAFP90S05Y400456

THIS IS A 2005 FORD GT THAT HAS ALL FOUR OPTIONS INCLUDING BREMBO BRAKES, MCINTOSH STEREO, BBS WHEELS AND THE COMPLETE STRIPE PACKAGE. IT HAS ONLY 9300 MILES AND I AM OFFERING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AT A VERY DOWN TO EARTH PRICE. THE CAR HAS A CLEAN CARFAX HISTORY REPORT THAT SHOWS NO ACCIDENTS OR TITLE DISCREPANCIES. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING YOU SHOULD NOT DELAY WE HAVE ONLY ONE CAR LIKE THIS TO SELL SO WHEN IT'S GONE I PROBABLY CAN'T REPLACE IT FOR THIS TYPE OF PRICE. ALSO IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THIS CAR HAS REAR CONTROL ARMS THAT ARE BILLET ALUMINUM (1of250) and HAD THE STOCK MUFFLER REPLACED BY A FREE FLOW CERAMIC COATED EXHAUST SYSTEM TO LET THE MOTOR BREATHE AND RUN COOLER WITH ADDED HORSEPOWER, A SMALLER SUPERCHARGER PULLEY AND THE COMPUTER FLASHED TO ALSO ADD HORSEPOWER. ALSO IT HAS HAD A HALON AUTOMATIC FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM INSTALLED AND THE SUB WOOFER HAS BEEN RELOCATED TO BEHIND THE SEATS TO IMPROVE INTERIOR SPACE.

I know the billet arms were rare but I thought it was more to the tune of ~400 that received them. There wasn't really any documentation from Ford regarding which cars received the billet arms were there?

It would be nice to know.........my 05 1613 has them and I think they stopped around 1800 in the 05 year. The early cars were the recall arm cars I'm told so wouldn't that mean that all 05's up til 1800 had them? If they replaced them on the early cars and then continued ...one would ASSume that.:bored

Jeffwants': You might wanna review this thread from about post #52 on. It pretty much covers what most of the members know around here (or in my case THOUGHT they knew!)...:cheers

Lots more than 250 cars had billet arms. Not sure where this guy is getting his info.... Over 1000 cars have billet A-arms

I've a late '05 build date #1830 and guess what - Billet! More than 1K, closer to 2K..................

Thanks EP. Learning more and more every day!

my 05 #1883 does not have them, i hope this helps narrow it down

Only 283 according to this and other recall websites

http://www.automotive.com/2005/12/ford/gt/recalls/index.html

283 may be the "recall" number but I'm told they continued to use them on cars being produced which must be right if my 1613 has them.

More googling and it looks like you're correct..

From Edmunds: (one of our esteemed members)

"Why did the MSRP of Ford's GT increase $10,000 for late 2005s and all 2006s? Some say it's because Ford saw dealers gouging -- yet still getting -- transaction prices far in excess of the original $139,995 (Ford insiders have told me company execs wished they'd picked a higher MSRP from the start). Others say it's because Ford needed more money on the later cars to make up for unforeseen costs overruns on earlier cars, and this is essentially true.

Beyond the paint and fuel tank issues on early cars there was the much-publicized "A-arm" recall that had non-believers in Ford's ability to produce a world-class exotic jumping up and down shouting, "See! Told you so!!" The problem came from an aluminum casting technique that saw early A-arms crack during the cooling process. Ford needed to revamp the casting technique, but if they halted production of the GT until the issue was fully sorted the cars would have been delayed for several months.

The sort-term alternative? Fully machine the A-arms in high-grade (and high cost) billet aluminum. Thus cars made through July of 2005, or somewhere around 1800 of the first 2000 cars produced, are equipped with exotic (and downright purdy) billet A-arms. According to Ford insiders each car equipped with such A-arms (including our long-termer, number 1456 of the 2005 model run) cost the company an extra...$10,000 to produce.

So just to review, the later cars with the less expensive standard aluminum A-arms are the ones with the higher MSRP.

And now you know the rest of the story."

Salesperson hype. Would you buy a car from Nardo GT? What does Karl know? We all know the real story.

I guess the question to us uneducated owners is how is this important?

'Don't think it's really "important" to anyone, Eric. It's just kinda 'interesting'...in a trivial sorta way!:biggrin
