GT40 at MECUM auction

There are actually two GT40s for sale at the auction; the aforementioned Alan Mann MkI and a Brian Wingfield MkII with an interesting build history.

Daytona Coupe on Good Morning America. they estimate $10-12 million!

Saw the car at the Petersen Museum a couple years ago. Absolutely beautiful. Here's a shot of the inside.

Fyi

Just back from the Mecum auction here in Indianapolis and the Shelby "King Cobra" sold for a hammer price of $600K.

There was an MSO Heritage FGT, S/N 1550, I believe 4 option car with 534 miles and a Henessey exhast which went for a hammer price of $171K.

Quite a few of all types of Shelby's......

Everything Shelby was well bid. The Daytona Coupe was a no sale at 6.8 million. A '66 GT40 was a no sale at 2.3 million. A 427 S/C Cobra was a no sale at 1.3 million, while a 427 Competition Cobra sold for 1 million. A 1 of 1 '67 GT 500 Vert 428 w/(2) 4's sold for 825,000, a '67 GT500 fastback sold for 175,000 while a '68 KR sold for 123,000. :cheers

Some incredible cars were up on the block this evening - that was pretty amazing. Good on Dana Mecum & crew - those cars were superb! The auction was fun to watch too.

Cheers,

Lance

Color analyst Bill Stevens did not aquit himself too well on the yellow '69 Boss 302. He kept harping about the missing side vent saying the '69 fastbacks had them and the '70s didn't. Uh, Bill, no Boss 302s had the side vent. Ford used the standard fastback fender for the 302s. All other performance '69s, including Boss 429s, Mach 1s, and Shelby's had the scoop. Boss 302s did not.

I'm surprised at the bids on the Daytona. It didn't get close to the pre-auction estimate. The prices on the cobras were strong and the bids on the GT40s seemed about right.

Wow, sounds like a great deal for the Heritage!

Don't forget about the 6% commission - $181,260 (still a good deal).

Dana Mecum also said someone with a 10m line of credit did not even bid, which is one reason why he didnt sell the car. I was somewhat impressed that the potential buyer still didnt budge on price with all the cameras, attention, etc...way to stick to your guns! He could have had the car for $600k more than his bid but refused to bid against himself. On a car that rare, with such a high pre-auction estimate I would have been tempted...

Good recap by Kirby. I watched Friday and saturday coverage, was kind of surprised at how many big money cars didn't reach the reserve. It was fun for me to see so many rare Fords in one place. Got'a love the HD coverage. :thumbsup

I'm not 100% sure, but it's possible we know who the 10M line of credit belonged to. That said, I never would expect him to have bid on that car... it's not his style at this time. That said, he did pick up at least one car that fills a gap in his Corvette collection quite nicely; the Dunkov cammed 1955 EX87.

I've heard rumors that the reserve was 7.8MM. Meanwhile in Italy, RM sold a 1957 TR for something over 16MM.
