..... registering the car in Denmark and buying a set of license plates:eek

On top of the approx 37½ % import toll/tax, I just learned that actually registering the car here will cost you approx 2.1 million danish kroner. That´s $381.000 :ack:ack:thumbsdow:eek

I was at the tax office buying licenseplates to my 05 Ford F150 (ending up paying $40K+) and I got to see that 2 FGT´s are actually oficially taxed and registered in Denmark. One 2005 which cost 2.1 million + and one 2006 that cost just short of 2.1 million.

Isn´t that just insane!

Unbelievable, and I thought California was bad at about $15,000 1st year registration plus the one time gas guzzler tax of around $5,000 (if I remember right).

What is the tax amount based on, value, HP, fuel consumption, carbon footprint?

An estimated market value is set and the registration tax is approx 61 % of this market value.

Denmark has always had very high tax levels which is funding the huge public system and the many benefits that go with it.

No doubt that many also consider this as very interfering with the individual possibilities to make it succesfully.

With no intent to turn this into a political discussion, the system does have its strengths and weaknesses just like any other ..... actually working pretty well.

Is this a one time tax, or must you pay 61% of the market value (hopefully depreciatated value) each year? Does it only applied to imported cars, or all cars?

This is when registrering a used car for the first time. When trading the car there after, no other taxes apply.

The estimated " market value" will go down together with the actual market value of the cars being sold on the market.

What will happen to the FGT in the next few years is hard to say. The estimated marketvalue might not go down at all. With the very limited numbers of registered FGT´s here and no trading going on, my guess is that the market value will not move substantially for the next 4-6 years.

The estimated marketvalue on my F150 was tough as this is the very first F150 to be registred as a non commercial F150 in Denmark. Very big rebates apply for commercial cars and trucks so these prices are not comparable.

They wanted me to pay almost 50K - I said that 30K was fair compared to the actual markedvalue. Rules say that if I leave a reasonable deposit they have to "sell" me the license plates, but from here on we will be discussing the final price for a long time to come.

And the best part no state income tax! I would be living there if the weather was as good as CA.

Do they have "dealer" licenses there? For a person with several vehicles that is the way to go here.

When I first saw the title to this thread, I thought for sure the answer had be "let Mrs. Bony ride with you." Guess I was wrong.

I hope you didn't pay a $15k registration fee in CA.? $1500 seems more like it... and I think I paid a $2500 gas guzzler tax... :confused

Anders,

I remember talking with a few friends that shipped their GT's to Europe and they mentioned three separate taxes (totaling 40-50% of the car's market value), only one of which was the country's registration/licensing fee. The others had to do with custom's tariffs, etc. Did you have to pay that on top of the 61%? :eek

And I thought Arizonians had it bad!!!
