Shadowman's Latest Personal Touches

Now I need to begin by sharing that I was not intending on posting these pictures because I do not want to interfere with or disrupt plans that other folks have been working on however I was asked by Rich aka “The GT Guys” to do so.

I will post 25 plus pictures of the process that I undertook integrating an OEM Ford rear view mirror that has a video screen built in for the purpose of a backup camera. I will also be integrating Kip’s “extremely cool” carbon fiber/leather cubby and an OEM Ford dome light that has a retro/period look to it as well as the camera itself. I should share that I received if not the first darn close to the first carbon fiber/leather cubby from Kip expecting to integrate it into my gal however ever time that I received them from Kip I had another person asking for one to be integrated as such it has taken nearly a year to finally tend to my gal.

Now let me be clear that there are likely easier ways to complete this task however my goal is always to integrate rather than add on as such all of the wiring harnesses etc are all fabricated/completed in a way that I would expect her to have come from Ford should these features have been offered. Then add to this I remain ever mind full of the fact that future service is something that needs to be easy to complete.

This is not a difficult task however it is not for the “time constrained” but rather for those that are “results oriented” because many of the trim pieces that need to be removed through the process are extremely expensive and damage would quickly turn a wonderful thought into an expensive lesson.

I hope that you enjoy the projects and the associated pictures

Takes “EXTREME” care

This batch of pictures is of the preparation of the rear portion of the OEM headliner and the custom intermediate wiring harness and the manner in which it was ground to the E-brake assembly under the magnesium center console.

All of the custom wiring harnesses of which there were "5" of them fabricated use an easy to follow color theme, the proper gauge of wire, are properly fused into the SJB area, are wrapped in OEM sheathing, and have Deutsch connectors attached to them. The custom harness from the new dome light was routed inside of the OEM sheathing that travels down the driver side "A-Pillar" however the custom rear view mirror harness travels down the passenger side "A-Pillar" terminating at the SJB box.

The dome light's operation remains as OEM; meaning that it was fully integrated with the OEM lamp control module so it comes on when a door opens; turns off by itself should a door be left open, and turns off when the key is turned to the start position. The only thing that I did was integrate a separate switch so that I can turn it on when I want independent of the OEM lamp control module.

These pictures are of the Deutsch connector used under the magnesium center console that will ultimately tie all of the new electrical systems together as well as the custom rear wiring harness and how it is connected at the rear fascia near the tail lamp. This was done so that the back of the gal can be easily removed aka plug and play. In addition there are pictures of the custom primary light wiring harness and the custom rear view mirror wiring harness.

These pictures are of the rear view camera; there are many camera options available in fact the first one that I integrated into "Blackbird" was a cool camera that is integrated into the license plate frame.

In addition there are pictures of me preparing the OEM magnesium center console to accept Kip's very cool carbon fiber/leather center console cubby.

These pictures are of Kip's very cool carbon fiber/leather center console cubby installed as well as the custom switch assembly and associated custom wiring harness that I fabricated and integrated.

You will see that the placement of the Deutsch connector is near the OEM plug for the climate control center so that during the removal of the OEM magnesium center console both plugs can be tened to at the same time.

The final saga with regards to this round of cool tweaks.

Here my gal is all buttoned up and all systems are on line.

If I had not shared the events most would never know that she is not as OEM on the surface as well as within those areas that most will never visit.

Remember that the "details" as well as sleeve after sleeve of blue tape make all the difference in the end.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my project

All the best

Great write up and great photos.. :thumbsup
Do you have any specs on the camera and rear view mirror?

How many times do we have to criticize you about a hand model?

LOL .... I need to learn how to Photoshop because with the hours that I keep I could never keep one at bay ready at a moments notice. What you receive from me is the good ... the bad ... and the ugly; hopefully the good is enough the offset some of the ugly.

Who knows; maybe I will get a fricken mannequin or at the very least the arm and hand of one.

You takes care

Oh well, if it's body parts your interested in......

While I'm at it, get off your duff and invent something to beat the slot machines in Vegas.
