MAFia vs bigger mass air meter

Has anyone used a bigger MAF instead of a piggyback device like the MAFia?

A local modular Ford specialist recommends the SCT BA5000 for my Whipple install instead of a MAFia.

Seems to make more sense than a band-aid approach like the MAFia, and not that much more expensive.

The OEM MAF is integrated into the air box as such the ability to change it is a bit more interesting when compared to other gals that simply have it in the intake tube

Takes care

I purchased an SCT BA-2800 MAF Meter, but the guy who sold me my SCT flash said he didn't know if it would work, rather he recommended the MAFia because he had written it into the software. I use the MAFia and have had no issues.

Thanks for your input. I have yet to disassemble the airbox, but is there a hindrance or trick to removing the actual MAF meter from the surrounding plastic?

Any 'Good' quality MAF can be calibrated correctly to work with the GT or any Ford mass air ECU. So can the MAFia as well. I currently use the SCT 2800MAF on my car with the MAFia. But that is all about to change.

The actual MAF electronics are held in place by 2 M4X10MM bolts

Just curious as to why you would need the MAFia with an aftermarket MAF....gues even the SCT2800 is too small for that TT beast, huh?

Correct. The sole reason one would need to change MAF's or use a MAFia would be due to hitting the 5 volt EEC hard limit.

I think that I understand what youi keep attempting to clarify

Changing the MAF is easy....................... however the MAF was calibrated to the specific flow through tube in which it resides.....

We change MAFs all the time however we also change the calibrated flow through tube section which on the FGT with the OEM air box can not be done because the flow through tuibe is integrated into the air box.

I hope that this makes sense

All the best

Thanks for the response, Shadowman. Makes sense, and it will probably be very obvious when I pull the factory airbox apart for inspection.

How did you overcome this obstacle with your aftermarket MAF, Torrie? Did you modify the factory air box?

The factory air box isn't in use in my setup which is evolving again right now.

Old setup shot, you can see the MAF and air filter to the far left.
