Not bad for a 4000 lb plus car. However, the reputation of the Zl1 will be made on the street and strip. The 1/4 mile performance is marginal given the power and launch control.

Its interesting that just when the new top gm car comes out Randy Probst suddenly losses 2.5 seconds in the LS around Laguna. His last time he drove the mustang there he ran 1:41.06 which is faster than his current best time in the ZL1 1:41.3.

I thought maybe GM was sandbagging a bit with the acceleration figures, but I guess not with two tests resulting in a 12.1 and a 12.3. Think about that, 12.3 in a car that has 580 hp, big tires and launch control. Ouch.

'Seems a bit odd that the Camaro stopped in 108 ft from 60 mph, whereas the 400 lb (okay, 413 lb.) lighter '302' took 112 ft.

I'm wondering if 'the boys' screwed up and reversed those numbers?

This?? Coming from our forum leader, caught standing in front of his dream car (see current avatar) ?? :rofl:rofl:rofl

Dont forget about the sand, its not like they could have had a blower to prep launch area.

This Zl1/Boss test wasn't at LS:

“… we took both cars to Inde Motorsports Ranch located in the Arizona Desert just a few short miles from absolutely nothing.”

“The Camaro clearly came out on top of this fight. Although the Boss 302 is probably the best Mustang ever built, it just feels and performs like it's a generation behind. Randy summed it up: ‘The Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca was my favorite American musclecar -- until today.’ It isn't the lack of power; it isn't the lack of amenities. It's simply a lack of technology. The Camaro is the benchmark for a new class of vehicle. Call it the Power Pony, the Warhorse -- the name isn't important. What is important is ZL1's on-demand attitude. Supercar levels of performance, with the daily driving comfort of a GT, wrapped in a nostalgic package. I bet Lee saw this one coming, too.”

Ouch.

As ZL1s across the country get blown away by GT500s on the freeway and at drag strips, Camaro owners can wave copies of C&D out the window screaming "But we have the teeeechnooooloooogeeeeeeeeeeee!"

I'm sure you're correct... it won't even be close as long as GT500 owners don't have to go around a corner or, according to C&D, stop.

Keep in mind, you're reading a comparison about a 440 hp Boss vs a 580 hp ZL1. When a 650 hp GT500 meets a ZL1 on a road course, it's gonna be a very different story. When ZL1 is slower in every category, what then?

I’m sure the 2013 GT500 will be faster/better in every category, but who really cares. I’m just glad that GM and Ford are pushing each other to make great cars again. We’ve all awaited way too long for this. For the first time since I was a teenager I’m excited about buying an American car (excluding the GT), and I have a choice of cars to buy. We’re all winners here… it’s just that the Zl1 is winning a little more right now.

Obviously GM does. Before ZL1 came out, Team Camaro had lots to say about how they were "aiming right between the eyes of GT500" and blah blah blah. After SVT announced their numbers for 2013 GT500 (which by the way will be out within a very short period of time next to ZL1), Team Camaro went all 8th grade and wrote a letter worthy of a mascara-wearing teenage boy crying on MySpace. I'm not even gonna get into GM's butthurt response to the Hitler video that I made as a joke. We'll save that story for another day. ZL1 is a fine car, but it sure is made by a bunch of whiners.

Perhaps the lesson here is that whiners can make fast cars too?

Well, I still say we're going to see a 650 horse (+or-) ZL1 fairly soon - along with a 750 hp (+ or -) ZR1 so the 'Vette can 'best' the Camaro's numbers and keep people's panties from wadding up. (Lingenfelter already HAS a 750 hp 'kit' for the ZR1, so it wouldn't be any real feat for GM to do a similar upgrade in darn short order if it really wanted to.)

But, like I suggested before, I'm betting we'll be seeing ins. co.s and "the powers that be" stepping in and putting a stop the h.p. race before too long anyway...to 'protect us from us', of course. I'm actually surprised they haven't already. :frown

I'm going to pretend I am 18 years old and it is Saturday night. My Dad owns both cars. Which car should I borrow tonight that will get me laid quicker?

I'd say it would depend more on whether you planned to wear your paper bag or not. :leaving:

(Edit: BTW, where are the pics of the '63 that you were gunna email me???)
