One of the big wigs at a local casino approached me 2+ months ago about bringing my GT to a 'show they're having this Saturday. I told him I pbly would, weather permitting, if I could "rope" the car off (for reasons I've covered elsewhere B4 ...'main ones being keeping people - and their kids - OUT of the engine bay and keeping BIKES away. :bang). He said no pblm.

Here's my question: 'Think it'd be "tacky" to rope it off? "Eliteist"? "Snobby" "Snotty". "Dumb"? "Fine and Dandy"? "'Smartest thing I could do"? What...

Thanks.

(He tells me there'll be SEVEN PANTERAS in attendance! 'Lookin' forward to seeing THOSE. :thumbsup 'Owners are members of some Pantera club somewhere. He didn't remember where off hand.)

I took my GT to a little shindig over here at a Grand Opening for a friends store... I let one of my long time friends sit in it for a few seconds... next thing I know, there was a line of people waiting to get in.

Most just wanted to have their picture taken while sitting in the car... no harm, no foul... I was fortunate, this time.

Maybe you could rope off a whole section with several cars in it... so you wouldn't look like the bad guy.

Good Luck,
mardyn

Rope if off and relax....

I've had more damage done by spectators than anyone else - took #1377 to an open house at a local hot rod shop and had several scratches to the leather interior from people touching and getting in and out when I wasn't there to proctor - people aren't mean - just clueless dumb asses - "rope it off". JMHO.

People with rings on their fingers, long nails, bracelets, etc... I would rope it off. Not snobby, I think everyone would understand why such an automobile would be roped off. If they had one, I'll bet they would rope it off too under the same circumstances. You never know who will wander away from the gaming floors after having a few too many drinks, and touch every body panel like they've found gold...

Smartest thing you can do Mr. Pockets :thumbsup

It's YOUR car, YOU paid for it, in my opinion, YOU should decide how it's protected. If anyone thinks that's snobby, they should purchase one and leave it for everyone to touch.

Just shut the doors and bring a tazer. First kid rubbing his snotty nose on the glass gets 75,000 volts to the ass.

I usually pop the clam and turn on the alarm.

To be honest I didn't read anyone elses reply not to be swayed...

Roped off yes with possible supervision of 1 at a time closer looks....

BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay!!!!!!

'Glad 2C the overwhelming majority of you agree on this. (Even "Emeril"[sp?] BAM!!!!)

I will be roping it off - which was my origional intent anyway as you know.

Thanks, guys. 'Appreciate the fact you took the time.:thumbsup

('Gunna use 6 of those orange rubber/plastic(?) traffic cones ... 2 in front ...1 on each side ...2 at the rear ... holes drilled at the tops of 'em to pass a 1/4" line thru. That way, if wunna the cones is knocked into the car - 'makes no diff. Those can't do anything a bit of wax can't fix.)

Aaaaaaaaah, but FIRST I'm off to buy a tazer!!!! :rofl

Just an "FYI" update...

I did rope the car off at the show as planned. The attendees in general didn't seem to have a pblm with it ... except for one individual who asked what the "deal was". "Yours is the only car roped off. What's the deal? 'Why is this car more special than any of the others?" ...And this, believe it or not, was a person I've known for a number of years. (And he wasn't joking ...'though he made a lame attempt to make it look that way. :frown) But, on the flip side, there were a number of people who made it a point to come over to me and tell me they understood why the ropes were there and stated they'd do the exact same thing for the exact same reason!

And there was one person who was EXTREEMLY upset that my GT was parked "front and center" in the most prominent spot on the show grounds - which was right in front of the tent where the trophies, disc jocky, registration tables, etc., etc. were located...and which also happened to "block the passersby's view" of HER car to some degree. ('NOT MY DOING!!! The show's director WANTED it there! :mad)

But, aside from the above incidents, it was a normal show day. 'Many nice compliments. Many cell phone and 35mm pics all day long. A lotta drool mopped up on a regular basis. And, again, I musta answered the same questions 3 dozen times:lol: How fast have you driven it? ... Where did you buy it? ... What does something like this cost? ...How many were made? ...and my favorite (when the one asking is of the feminine gender): "Will you adopt me?"

Oh. Three of the 9 Pantera owners expected showed up. (Strep throat and other pbms prevented the other 6 from coming.) One of these gentlemen was a fellow by the name of Mike Thomas who came over & introduced himself ... and within a few minutes we were verbally jabbing back and forth like we do here on The 'Forum!:lol 'Very pleasant guy. 'Fun to talk to. ( He runs the N.W. Pantera Forum website.) (Or, Panteras Northwest. Whichever it is!)

One of the Pantera's was equipped with an OWNER FABRICATED, dual turbo setup!!:ack Can you just IMAGINE what it would have been like to have had a Pantera set up like THAT back in '72???!
