Would you buy a GR-1 with an N/A V10 in it?

I know low-volume niche cars aren't what Ford needs, but they don't hurt. If they built that car and priced it between 100-150k, I think half the room at the C.E.C would have thrown down the money right then and there. I'm sitting around bummed trying to figure out when the next Ford sports car will roll around because this one is so damned good...

I would buy it if I had the money.

I would prefer to see a Ford that is priced in the Z06/Z07->SRT-10 price corridor; more of an exciting street machine.

I need a vert ...... BAD! :ack

I traded my SL500 on the GT and the only backup I have is a 73 Eldorado (a true barge). I truly like the GT and would never due the GTX-1 conversion as a key body feature being the "Guillotine" doors are lost :frown

I'm looking at a GT-500 but the Cobra roadster we saw in Detroit was really appealing! :thumbsup

DBK, if you can get me one, I'll take it RIGHT NOW! I fell in love with that car the minute I saw it in person in Chicago. The car mags did not do it justice.

I'll take both the GR-1 and the Cobra, do I get a discount? :biggrin

If they offered the GR-1 and the GT at the same time I would have bought the GR-1. Best looking car on the planet. GT is #2, but they built it.

It's too cool that Ford would only be competing with themselves. I would also buy the GR-1 before a MKII or MKIV sight unseen.

If they use the V-10 I hope they forge the bottom end so supercharging is a non issue. Of course 605HP is a good start.

What's the most powerful (in HP) production car ever built? The Veyron?
Let's build something more powerful, better and faster, for half a million, and sell it to GT owners only. Can I get one of the first 10? :biggrin

Where is GTJoey, he and DBK got the rally started, get it done!!! :cheers

Back up

Mike, you need another back-up. How about my 1963 1/2 Galaxie XL500, 390? buckets and 3 speed auto in the console. 102k miles and mint, unmolested condition. While and gold/green. It's you... :wink

I totally agree, including the assessment that it would be the best looking car on the planet. Forget any next gen GT that won't happen, bring on the GR-1! The GR-1 is unbelievably beautiful in person (painted, not with the chrome skin as shown at our rally). I absolutely fell in love with it at the Los Angeles auto show a couple of years ago- what a stance, what a profile, what a car!

Make it a Shelby with huge horsepower and upward swinging doors for $110K -120K or so, I'll buy two!! Oh, and first dibs to current GT owners, of course.

In the meantime, I'm busy collecting any and all GR-1 memorabilia and hoping the GR-1 is coming soon!!

Funny you should ask. I told Camilo at his party that he needs to redo that Audi looking Cobra roadster himself . And only real die hard fans even know about the Daytona coupes, so a GR1 would have limited appeal and it looks like Chryslers new concept as well. Every car guy out there would love an origional AC Cobra. That is why Shelby does a continuation series because there are so many replicars that Shelby said I might as well get in on it and do it better.

Camilo loved the idea! The guys I talked to on the team were digging the idea too. Fred, Kip etc. were all jazzed about it.

Don't base your vote on that concept Cobra Roadster, vision it redone properly by Camilo :thumbsup

Actually, I thought the concept was done very well. It wasn't meant to be a replica but an evolution.

Scode,
You just hit the nail on the head for me. I don't like the new cobra shown at the rally. It's too far off the original mark. The new GT looks like a 1966 GT40. A new cobra needs to look like an AC original. Scale it up to 120% of the original a la GT and be true to the original lines so my supersize ass will fit and put the GT mill under the hood. Camilo can do it right. I would buy one. If Ford builds the GR1, I would buy that. Just do it!

Funny - When looking at the car I thought - Its pretty hot, but really needs to be hit with a Camilo stick. Especially the interior.

Then I did some web searching and some places claim he did work on the design.

Anyone know for sure?

The problem with the cobra concept is the Audi TT front and back end that J Mays brought over from Volkswagon. If the ends could be reworked it would help. I would still go for the GR-1. It has daily driver written all over it.

It would be cool if under the skin they are nearly the same car. Can you imagine a line that builds both? Kick ass. Plus the R&D can be amortized over both cars.

Bring on the Shelby GR-1. I will give Ford payment in full today if they said they would build it!

Glad to hear it Chip! You are not the only one to feel this way, many people I pitched this to feel the same way. I recomfered to Camilo a few days later so he didn't think it was the vodka flowing from the party :lol but I was serious and he was still in tune :thumbsup Now it is the bean counters we have to work on!

I told him that night, if he can get it right, I will pitch it to Edsel when I talk to him next and he was thrilled.

Now it is up to Camillo to get it done.

I hope it is the next "Bold Move" at the next autoshow!

PS. I told him if he needed insparation on how to get the "hips correct" just have the models at his party, in particular the Ferrari and GT jump suits bend over and the "fish net girl" between them for the "eyes"," headlamps" if you will, that would do it, and he laughed.
