Who really came up with the idea to do the GT?

I envision years ago Ford brass sitting a ta table wondering what they should do to celebrate the Centennial. So when asked about building a special show car, someone had to be the first one to bring up the "GT40". Who was it?

I've heard rumours that the original idea came from discussing on airplanes, to Bill Ford himself saying do a GT.

Does anyone really know?

It is said that Chris Theodore, when flying to Sweden (Ford had just bought Volvo) with J Mays and Richard Parry-Jones they talked of building a mid-engined sports car. By the time they landed in Sweden, the project was decided.

Neil Ressler (Ford engineer) was rather keen on gardening and dubbed the project Petunia.

Last time I flew to Sweden I just looked out of the window and wondered how pretty the girls might be.

Send me a private message with your mailing address & I will send you one. They are 3" diameter on Edge vinyl. I have mine on the windshield lower corner on the driver's side. It's on the outside.
