Whipple Ind. working on an upgrade!

I spoke with a tech at Whipple and they are working on a package for the GT. It is a 3.3 supercharger making 19lbs on 91 pump gas and a reflashed processor. If you also do the complete exhaust(headers and muffler) this combo will give 700HP to the wheels! It is about 2 months away and is going to cost about 8K.

Interesting. I knew whipple had been working on a 3.3 but was unaware it had any plans on using it in this application. I would think 700 at the wheels would be easy with a blower that large. Run some race gas in it, turn it up to 25lbs. and see what happens :eek

If this does in fact come to fruition, I'd assume a great deal of GT's would be fitted with this blower. The car can obviously handle significantly more power as is without upsetting the overall dynamic...

p.s, when did you talk to this person? I know they'd been having massive issues with getting cores from Lysholm Tech. If they haven't sorted that out yet, it'll be a long time before this occurs...

Isn't Whipple's office in California? Do they have a GT they are working on locally?

I'm pretty sure they are a few miles from where I live.

whip my ride !

Boyz,
i guess this is just whAT i NEEDED !
LET'S MAKE SURE WE REALIZE THE CHASSIS POTENTIAL ! Always said, it's ovvious from few miles, the car can handle much more back hand pressure.. !
Get me the Arnie, power ! Terminator stuff, i'll need it agianst the whimpsical italian cutouriers ... !

POWA, BABY ! :mad

Nice package but 8K for 100 horsepower seems like a lot of money. A stock car does about 550 RWHP and a pulley change bumps it up to 585-590 RWHP with gutted cats..

Greetings,
They are in Fresno, I would be willing to work with them. VERY interesting.
You can never have enough horsepower. Let them know they could have acess to a test mule in Fresno.
Cheers,
Daniel :cheers

I just talked to a the guy today...might have been Justin...not sure about that cause I talked to several people today. He said they are working closely with Ford on this because everything they develope will be offered through them also. The main thing Ford was doing is helping with the reflashing on the computer, evidently doing a lot of tweeking. They do have a car to use because he said it was stupid fast...to the point of severe traction problems. I dont know about availability with the Lysholm units, but he did mention that he was glad Ford was putting a roots on the GT500, coincidently everything they are developing makes a nice upgrade for that vehicle also. I originaly called about a smaller pully for the GT and was offered this tidbit of info. They have a pully kit developed also that brings boost to 16lbs on 91 pump and a reflash for the computer which will get you to almost 600 at the tires, the exhaust only adds about 15 horse but the sound makes it worth it. This will be available by the end of the month. I did not ask the price because I already was to overcome with the bigger huffer! You can call and ask for the tech dept and they will tell you about it, I am sure they would like to hear there is a lot of interest and maybe that will move it up on the schedule.

Interesting especially that Ford will offer it, but you don't need the reflash to hit those numbers. Ford has been experimenting with various superchargers but are concerned over driveability in operating conditions that an owner can encounter particularly low temperature ranges.

The reflash, pulley, gutted cats = John Coleti's car that did a 10.85 quarter at Englishtown on a specially prepared track, Evan SMith, and ice packs to cool the car between runs. That car had 595 RWHP and a programmable computer piggyback.

As previosuly posted the pulley and gutted cats gave my car 580 rwhp on 108 degree day. So I think in cooler weather and lower humidity it would extremely close to the 595. No reflash because it would void warranty at the present time.

This is great news !! Automobile magazine just tested the GT at 12.2 in the quarter, so we need some help. (I know "The GT is not a Drag Racer."....but...). Who is the contact at Wipple, so we can start pesting them.

12.2 is about the slowest of any test I have seen. Some one may know better but I don't believe Automobile actuals test the cars they rely on factory numbers. That is one of the reasons why I do not buy the magazine.

The car routinely is in the 11's.

Well I'm glad that whipple didn't axe the 3.3L blower for automotive applications. I know they've had a couple testers on lightnings for over a year now. Was just out looking at the engine bay thinking about the extra room in there.

Not seeing how this is 8K though, the blower retails on their website for $2800.

EDIT: Nov 10th. Haha, whipple jacked the prices way up after they've officially announced the blower on their website.

any updates? Not that I am a spendthrift, 100hp for $8k doesn't seem that expensive. I have spent much more many times for fewer ponies.

I just checked out the standard manifolds, and the only word that comes to mind is... SAD!!!
Surely the headders must add about 20-30 HP...

My challenge is staying emissions legal. The other day driving home (in my Volo V70R - est. 400hp @ crank) I saw on the side of the road a roving emission tester including a dyno. Wouldn't want to go across and get impounded for illegal motor. Don't want to sound like an old lady, just stating with is going on here in the little former farm town of Fresno :frown

whip it up !

Fresno boyz: Any update !? Drive up there, and find out what's cooking ! :willy :willy :willy We need to know what pulley ratios we could plant on it.

Here an update :banana from Dustin Whipple himself:
Stefan,

We have repullied and recalibrated the PCM to make 598rwhp from the stock 511rwhp (our dynojet numbers). We are working on a new system with Ford Racing that replaces the factory SC with our larger 3.3L unit. This will be available in approx. 90 days. We can do the pulley and cal change before that if required.

Thanks,
Dustin Whipple
