I never remember my temp being more than 170 180.I washed my car and
when i was done i just let it run for awile i saw what looked like smoke comming from front fans it did stop.but the temp goes to 200 210 now.But on road it goes back to 170, and sometimes its 170 in traff sitting still for long time in lots of heat. The fans are working should i be worried,Maybe i just did not notice it going up sometimes but i keep a good eye on things like that.

The water temp on the GT varies more than any other car I have owned - especially modern ones. "Normally" a car will warm up to the level of the thermostat and will usually stay within 10% or so of this value. On the GT, I'm guessing that the thermostat is a 180 degree variety. It is very difficult for a car to operate below the level of the thermostat and the GT tends to run no less than about 180. However, on hot days in traffic, the temp will venture on up to 220 degree. I believe Ford has the fans programmed to come on relatively high.

With that, I'd say your experience is completely normal. The "smoke" you saw was likely just steam from water setting against/around the radiator. Steady-state cruising from 40mph on up should yield a 180 degree temp. In slower conditions on warm days, it is not unususal to see a range of temps between 180 and 220-230.

I wonder if there is a thermostat...or maybe it is a 160...Mine runes 165 - 170 at 80mph.

Seen good swings as well. I have seen 210, and am not worried at all, See 240 I feel there is an issuse. Remember cooling systems are pressurized, and the presence of anti freeze both increase the boiling point of water. Therfore that is why no issue untill 240. If you look carfully at the guage, the "red" area is about 240. Other cars I have had that actually give you a real temp number (vs a cold to hot range) including my race car, the temp is in the 200-210 range under normal and spirited conditions.

in houston !! 95 degrees , 65% humidity!! I am about 10 degrees cooler with IDA Exhaust...

kosupply,

Are you confident that the Ida exhaust reduced your temps by 10 degrees (e.g. did you "know" the car temps well before installing the Ida)?

How about the sound vs. stock? Is it too loud?

Thanks,

Rob

I might refer you to the sticky by the Architect concerning this issue under tech notes.

IT sounds great!

And power is there too.Drove it home to cape cod mass from NJ .Bob Ida knows his stuff, last dyno pull was in sixes.I love my vipers but this is sweet

I have doubted the "Ida cooling effect" since day 1 when it was first posted.

I'm now running the Ford Racing Headers & Exhaust. Compared to the Ida, I have substantially less plumbing than his system. I have no heavy cast exhaust manifolds, I have no cats, and I have NO U-bend tubes behind the air cleaner box. If the Ida made the car run cooler, the Ford Racing Exhaust would be as cool if not cooler. It is not. Enough said.
