I never saw/knew the black no stripe existed when I started looking for mine. When I saw Syco's in person I was blown away. It is just sinister cool. Still love mine, but if Tungsten is #1 for me a black no stripe would be #1A......until I had to clean it. :wink

Gentlemen,

There are many desirable cars built today, but there are only a few vehicles I have lusted after my entire life. The Ford GT40 has always been #2 on my bucket list of vehicles I must own sometime before I die. #1 on my list since the time of my childhood has always been the Mustang. An old Mustang.

Like the Ford GT40, the shape of these early Mustangs never gets old. The most beautiful shape in aviation. Before the current financial meltdown, I thought I was getting close. This dream is now fading off into the distance. But somehow, someway, I am determined to pull it off. My friend Bill Hain owns this beautiful example and keeps it at Falcon Field in Mesa, Arizona. Oh, and one more thing. Sometime before I die I would also like to be able to fit into that Simpson flight suit again! :lol

The P-51 is not only a beautiful airplane, but probably the best fighter aircraft of WWII.

Yet, my favorite planes from that engagement will probably always be the Douglas SBD-3 (-3 & higher) dive bomber and the Lockheed Lightning P-38.

The Dauntless was the workhorse of the Pacific Theatre, and never looks better than in a full dive with it's Swiss cheese dive brakes flared out, and while slower than it's competition, it's manuverability seemed to always keep it in the fight. It's too bad so few examples remain. (Photos - this post)

The Lightning was one of Kelly Johnson's (of Lockheed Skunk Works) early accomplishments, later of U-2 and SR-71 fame, and was also known for it's manuverability and speed. (Photos - next post)

Ralphie, I can't believe you posted picts of so many of the toys I played with at the Johnson Space Center, the ESS, capacitance band leg plethysmograph, and who knows how many hours I've spent in the LBNPD! If you ever see the Shuttle mid-deck stowable LBNPD, I designed and zero-g tested it back in the late 80's. Thanks for the memories!

Brian Mckay; Owns Ault electric out of Tacoma and has one of the largest and most impressive Ford only car collections in the country. I believe he has every Ford Performance car made and the only modification to 99% of them is real wheels and tires. Collection is unbelievable. Some of the rarest Fords made.

I agree that the Ser 1 E-Type coupe is one of the prettiest car designs of all time. I had 2 E-types for over 12 years. Lots of upkeep and repairs however. You gotta keep a diaper under the car for the oil drips. At the end of the day, I sold them both (the coupe to Kirby's friend) and got out even, counting initial cost and repair bills. Lucas wiring is the bane of British car collecting. I've had a couple of incidents with smoke coming out from behind the dash with wires melting. I still get nostalgic about the coupe, especially when someone posts a pic like yours. I took the proceeds from the sale of both Jags and bought a 2nd FGT!

Definately one of my all time favorites but I prefer the 73/74 series III roadster.

I've seen an XJ220 at the local Car and Coffee. That V-6 looked really small in the engine bay. I think the value of these cars has climbed tremendously. I seem to recall that not long ago they could be had for well under $100k.

The P-38 is a beautiful machine. Our fellow member Flatrod has one is his back yard at Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. Here are some photos of the P-38 and my son. That P-38 has an interesting history too.

That plaque tells a huge story... of how far government bureaucracy has grown its tenticles into everything. 3/4 of the plaque tells the story of red tape and the hard work of restoration (and the crew that did it) barely get a line. :frown

I have a sickness. I want every car out there.

I wanted a porche in the 80's. They still look the same and while they are great cars, will not own one until they get better sounding and looking.

Dodge came out with the Viper. Wasn't that thrilled with the look, but then the GTS came out. Bought a blue and white in 97. Still think it looks great, and at the time was so much faster then anything I ran across at the road course.

Went to the Wynn casino to see a 430. Paid admission to the place, walked down a row of cars. "I thought there was a 430 here" There was, in the middle of all the 360's I didn't see it as they look so similar. They build thousands a year and have been doing it for a long time. Haven't seen the new ones in person, but cost and maintenance and pictures have kept me from wanting one.

Murci seems really big. I do like the Gallardo. Would seriously consider one of these, just not sure I could drive it enough to make it worth wile.

I really like the way Aston's look. However the reliability turns me off.

If we are talking about air craft, I would like a Robinson R22 helicopter. However, I think I would kill myself in short order so it's probably best not to get.

For you war birds enthusiast, you can get a brand new Me-262. They look really mean in person. Just a thought.

So my next purchase will be a Ford Raptor. Can go as fast as I can with mostly no speed limits, only physics holding me back.
