For those of you who have not been to VIR, it is a wonderful track. I have represented several NASCAR drivers (legal work) and they love testing there. Some of the older drivers drove go karts there back in the 60s. I have been to Sears Point and Watkins Glen et al, and VIR stacks up with the best.

Despite the fact that it was closed for many years and became a virtual pasture, VIR has a wonderful history which you can check out on their website. The general manager of VIR is a lawyer who used to work in my firm, Josh Lief. Josh is also an accomplished driver (and damn good guitarist)

I am in Richmond about 2 hrs away and will be staying at the track. If anyone has questions about our beautiful Commonwealth or needs anything, let me know.

There are neat places to visit including the Blue ridge Parkway, Monticello, UVa and Williamsburg.

You will not be disappointed.

Fabulous -
Mr. Moose and I will be staying a few extra days to check out the area. It is our first time that far east and we're looking forward to exploring the area. We're hoping to see fall colors, too. It is another 110 degree day today; I can't wait for some cool weather.

Then you are going to want to check out Skyline Drive.

I need to get reading but in case we never found out......Anyone know if there is a place to drop our car trailers?
And parking at the hotel covered +/or Secure?????????

I have ridden it about 6-7 times on motorcycles. Last time about 4 years ago. It has been closed due to a rockslide part of this summer, but understand it is now re-opened. I do not think we are very close to route 129 Deals Gap on this trip..approx 250 miles away. If you decide to go, make sure it is re-opened.

318 curves in 11 miles!

I've been checking the website since this summer & the TDOT re-opened it on July 10.

Ed - Yes, it is bendy!
Just be careful. The main crash issue typically comes from one of the c-rocket motorcycles crossing the centerline and mashing into the car or bike coming the other direction.

Special Ed, I thought about this seriously, and it's pretty far out of the way, on the other side of the state, and not exactly easy to get to. Police are supposed to be pretty bad, too.

I rode it on a bike a year or so ago and we were there during the week and it was really crowded

Its hit or miss during the week. Its a lot of fun, just have to be careful for other crazy drivers. Even not driving an excessive speed. its a great route.
