I am fascinated by VINs (further evidence that I have no life). From doing some quick searches here it looked like VIN 0032 may be the lowest here (could be wrong) and the last few 06s went to the Ford family. I was also wondering:

1. Did any of the first few VINs go to Ford execs or family members?

2. Does anyone have any data or can anyone makes a rough estimate of how many cars have survived? And of those how many remain in the US? -both likely unknowable. I would guess between original production and dealers selling used overseas there must be several hundred out of country

Drummer, CobraJeff has most of the info you seek. He is the GT Registrar for SAAC. Carroll Shelby got 5 of the last cars made, blue/no stripe if I remember right. The last 2 or 3 cars went to Ford family members. This info is here somewhere.

My GT is 0027. 2006 White with Blue strip.

Nice try Pelle.....#32 is an '05 ('04):biggrin:wink:lol

Yeah--I was thinking more form the beginning--not 06 low VINs.

I was particularly curious as to who got first 10 or so.

With Vipers , the first 18 or so went to execs. Iaccoca got VIN 00001; Lutz got 00002; Eaton 00008 . I bought Lutz' 00002 2 last year from Bob--it remains atop my lift under cover .

Oops, sorry I thought GTdrummer was writing about his 06 GT serial number, I need to slow down and read more carefully. I still like my early 06 number.

Early VINs

You guys with the '06's are not going to beat Harley Cluxton - he bought 6-0003 new - the first production '06 car to go into private hands. It was also the first customer car painted the new for '06 color of Tungsten Grey. Ford retained 6-0001 (Tungsten) and -0002 (Gulf).

For '05's, Bill Ford has 5-0001, Mark Fields has 5-0004.

Would still like to hear from anybody who sees a GT with a 2004 Model Year VIN (has a "4" in the tenth digit VIN position). I have '04's up to 4-0018, leading me to speculate there were probably a couple dozen '04 MY prototypes built. Let me know, and send me pictures of any 2004 models you see (car and the VIN plate).

regards,

Jeff

Excellent info. Thanks, Jeff
