I am not aware of any Muslim (Halal) restaurants in my nearest town.... French and Italian are pretty good, of which we have plenty... :wink Curiously the British have managed to eat for many centuries without the benefit of new arrivals from either the Norman conquests or any other numerous marauders.

British food is actually rather good - our reputation is for fish and chips, like the US reputation is for burgers or hotdogs. Neither would be representative of the fine cuisine available. :thumbsup

I'm not sure what a Kabab or Gyro is however you should be aware that Indian restaurants are generally frequented by people who've had too much alcohol. It's not regarded as 'food' and nor are they the typical haunt of the sophisticated GT owner. :lol

The population of India is currently 1,129,866,154, England is 60,776,238 of which there are 159,000 Muslims (2.7%) and of those 105,000 are Indian. I very much doubt they all run restaurants. :biggrin

Actually looking at the stats, the US has roughly the same demography in percentage terms with between 5-7m Muslims, I suspect Indian food is not seen as the staple diet of Americans either. :cheers

-Gyros are sliced grilled meat wrapped in a thin roll of flat bread

-I dont doubt your description of drinking; however, on my last trip to Notting Hill i had to walk around for an 1 hour to find some authentic fish-chips.....most were frozen fish stick/fries

-Here in New York City we have a million restaurants and the vast majority are ethnic. Some people dont consider it a weekend unless they have their Chinese takeout v. a Roast Beef or Chicken like maybee the rest of the country.

My main point is immigrants are a huge part of every country; and many would grind to a halt if theyrwerent there. A

s a total aside, Detroit has a large immigrant population and many of car assmebly line at one point had many such immigrants working on them and even some of the engineers on the Ford GT.

So, i'll look you up for some real fish and chips wrapped in newspaper when i'm in your land.....

I'm merely defending our national cuisine which is really rather good. We don't rely on ethnic minorities to feed us. Indeed, the parlours of Notting Hill or Knightsbridge are as representative as those of Times Square for national tastes.

Generally, IMHO the food in Europe is of better quality than here in the states. Recently I went to Luxembourg, Germany and France... was amazed by the flavor and texture. when I asked about it ... the reply was no preservatives and no hormones ... nothing genetically altered. Evidently France passed a law and the rest of the EU follows along.

Even the hamburger I got at MCdonalds off the autobahn was awesome. Go figure.
