I went to see the Stones in Vegas last night (11th May). The show was awesome. I thought the ticket was atrociously priced but had to see them one more time. I saw them on their 2006 "Bigger Bang" tour and it was awesome, also at the MGM in Vegas [Side story: Jagger's dad passed away at 93, Jagger flew to see him on Friday and was back in Vegas on Saturday.]

The MGM Grand Arena is the best place I've ever seen concerts and if a band is playing I will go there to see the show because I've figured out where to sit and know that the sound will be awesome.

Concert summary:

Jagger can still prance around on the stage like he did 50 years ago. All of them sounded like they did then, except at the end Jagger's voice started to falter, but the last (reprise) song of I Can't Get No Satisfaction was awesome.

Charlie Watts I think is my favorite. Sorry Keith. Yeah drums.

Richards. Yes!!! I think he was better this time than last.

Ronnie Wood is the unsung Stone. He's just there, but you can't do without him. Not a showman, just a great guitarist.

So if you get to see this show, go to it. The tickets are pricey. "Discounted seats" to fill up the stadiums are apparently a rumor (as stated in the Vegas paper) started by Jagger to keep ticket scalpers from doubling the prices of already pricey tickets.

Now for the pool story.... Here's the email I sent to my old lady yesterday afternoon before I went to the show.

Well, I peed my pants. Maybe, not sure, because the adrenaline was flowing.

I went down to the pool this afternoon at a little after noon. Forgot my drivers license so couldn’t put the charge on the room so had to pay cash. Nice day. Water in the main pool is a little cool but air temp is fine. The “hot tub” was great.

Brought a couple of car mags down to read while lounging in the sun. It was nice and warm.

I went to get beer #2 and decided to sit in the hot tub for a few minutes with my beer. I’m resting kind of staring at the sky with a helicopter flying over. Then a bunch of kids come running into the pool.

All of a sudden some woman screams. I startled and sat up and at my feet is a little boy maybe two flailing his arms under the water just in front of me. I plucked him out and he coughed up some water but was OK. The look of fear and terror in his little eyes was nothing like I’d ever seen before and hope I never do again.

He had started walking down the steps and “fell off the edge” – he didn’t know how deep the water was. Just enough deeper than he was tall I guess. He was under for maybe 10 seconds but that’s all it took.

The woman who yelled was not the little boy’s mother. She came a few seconds later, the little boy cried for a minute or so and was back in the water – “back in the saddle”.

I spilled my beer when I was coming up. They gave me another one.

You just never know what is going to happen.

It just totally freaked me out... Between the show and this I didn't sleep last night.

I also just saw The Stones at their first performance on this 50th anniversary tour at the Staples Center.....and I thought they were amazing. I enjoyed it as much or more than the previous times I've seen them going back decades. Highly recommended. The best R&R concert ever!

I was at Hard Rock last night

Kayvan, I too was at the Hard Rock Saturday. Did a Dirt Bike ride from Barstow to Vegas on Friday and then sat around the Hard Rock pool on Saturday. Really funny watching all the guys trying to hook up with the girls, especailly some of my rider friends.

All the play of the Stones now is for the R&R. But they had some really good stuff that was heavily influenced by blues music. It was great to hear some of that again.

Keith Richards showed up as an unexpected guest at the Clapton Crossroads festival in NYC last month. Pretty cool having Richards on lead guitar with
Clapton as his back up. The show was 5 hours of the whose who in the guitar world. Hope to catch one of the Stones shows when they wind it down on the East coast.
