I'm posting this in the general section in hopes of a few quick, accurate responses! TIA!

I've got a track day scheduled Sunday at COTA and I just picked up my GT from having the tach replaced and putting some Pilot Sport Cups on. Really excited as the only other time I've run that track I had a fairly new set of GYE ZP and those tires were limiting.

Anyway the dealer warned me that while they've had it the mileage display stopped working, and he's got a replacement on order. He said it is still logging miles just not displaying them. I said no worries I don't really need that this weekend.

However on the drive home I lost the fuel gauge (has happened before when battery was low) and got the check gauge light and then the beeps began. At first every minute or so but now sometimes with only a second or two between beeps. I'm pretty sure there is no way I can run all day at COTA with the beeps, not to mention if I have some sort of failure.

Any ideas or suggestions? I can and will take it back to the dealership but that's 30 minutes with no traffic, which doesn't happen here much.

I'll be refreshing often and thanks.

Did the check gauge light come on when the fuel gauge went out? It may think you're low on fuel. Slam the trunk lid to stop the beeps.

Good advice and I thought it might be when the gauge went out, because it somewhat coincided. The door ajar light didn't come on which usually happens when the clamshell is not latched completely, but with that display out I'll give that a shot. FWIW the other lights seem to work (seatbelt, check gauge etc.)

It's easy enough to get a code reader into the OBD connector and get the whole story. I'd be reluctant to take the car anywhere while it's trying that hard to tell me something.

Trunk lid. Could be the clam, but usually the clam gives a steady door ajar. Trunk lid gives the morse code beeps.

I should have known you were being specific to the trunk lid and not the clam. That seems to take dare of the beeps thanks.

I guess I'll just gas up after every session and not worry about the fuel gauge.

Battery dying or terminals need some cleaning?

And/or bad ground. Ground could be causing sporadic dirty power, which could be affecting your gauges.

Sit back, relax and enjoy COTA. Two of the best weekends I have ever had in a car were there with the MVP group.

Thanks all for the speedy replies. Headed out to check and clean the terminals and ground. Also when it's on my tender the gauges all work and it has been in the shop since Monday with no tender. I feel great about running regardless of the fuel gauge.

Thugboat I ran there last November and I agree, best time in any car on any track!

So glad that while my car was at GTG, had the speedhuts put in. Removed all my gages while working, and hope that one day, they'll be worth a fortune, as they'll be the last set of working OEM's left!

IMO they can break just sitting on the shelf. :thumbsdow

Clean & tighten the ground strap bolt

Check engine always comes on when that's not clean or tight

Hey that was my plan too!

Yes but, he didn't get a check engine.

Perhaps his fuel gauge and check gauges light are working properly, and his Ford dealer emptied his tank.

I fueled up every other session while at COTA and always had plenty of fuel

Have a great track day and wish I was there too

When my fuel gauge(s) died the tank was close to empty both times and the "check" light was on. When adding fuel the "check" light didn't go out. It wasn't until the gauge was replaced did the light reset.

Hey guys thanks again for the helpful responses. I went to the track with a full tank and after session 1 (25 minutes) I fueled up and was down 6 gallons. As Steve57 mentioned I just filled up after every other session and was fine. Steve I guess your fuel gauge was out as well? After the 1st session the check engine light did indeed come on and worried me, but fortunately one of the speed shops in town had set up in one of the garages and had an OBD reader. Code read that the fuel level sensor wasn't working. So I had a great time the rest of the day but almost wished I had put a piece of electrical tape over the light. :lol

Now I'm wondering if I need a new gauge or just the fuel level sensor, or maybe they're one unit. I'll let the tech know and see what he thinks.

A big shout out and thanks to Ralphie for his guidance and advice on track/street tires! I got a set of MPSC's and loved them! Almost wish I hadn't run a day with (new) run flats last November as that kind of set my expectations and I never really did reach the limits of the PSC's although I may have reached the limits of my testosterone a few times!

Sounds like you had a great time so glad to hear it !!

My fuel gauge would work when headng out on track and by end of session it would show empty however when I would come in
turn car off and while it sat between sessions I guess it would re set as when I would start car back up for next session it would be working.
Someone mentioned the G's from cornering and sloshing fuel would give the sensor false readings and gauge would act up. Not sure if that's
true but ever since my gauge is working fine and it has done this at all three track days I have done

Bigsie, the fule sensor is ultrasonic and located in the the tank itself. Very, very unlikely it will go out and be the culprit. It's the gauge for sure.
