looking to purchase new ford gt out of my chicago area and wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to a car transport carrier? is almond on this website been used by anyone. thanks jory

Gary has transported a number of cars for forum members for delivery, as well as transporting GT's for the national event. His reputation is impeccable in the Viper world, as well as here. :cheers

I second what Dave posted. He just transported a car for me. Great guy, first class service. You can't go wrong.

I would unequivocally recommend Rich's Classic Transport

Rich knows how to transport a GT safely & securely, offers reasonable prices, and is an all around great guy.

Rich moved for the RALLY my GT and AWSUM's from Fresno to Detroit and back perfectly.
Can't say enough good things about Rich's Classic Trasnport.

Also, try Fred Koller of Concours Trasnport from Henderson, Neveda.
Moved many cars for me, always as agreed and on time. :biggrin

Fed Ex Custom Critical

I used them, and all was fine. Quick turnaround 5 days; and they probably have delivered more GTs than any other carrier. Knew all the issues (ground clearance, tie down wheels [not arms], and they use a double deck lift so car is driven on deck & loaded 100% flat. Get full insurance of $150K.

I will give another vote for Rich..he not only did Bony's and Awsums GT's but Mine, Racer X and Vipers to the Ralley...he is a great guy and treats the cars like his own.

Matt

Sounds like two great guys.

I've used Gary Almond to transport both my Viper and GT (just got delivered Saturday!) and would HIGHLY recommend him.

What's a recommended tip range for a transport driver?

I've never transported a car before.

Thanks!

$50-75

Thanks! It should be here in one week.

$100, or introduce him to the hot married woman who posted today :lol

Props to Gary Almond :thumbsup

Best Out There !!!!!!!!

Thanks!

With all the excitment around having my new car delivered, I never considered tipping. I'm almost always on the ball in the green grease department. Oh well, sorry Rich.

On a somewhat related note - Since I am a newbie to exotic ownership -

How about valet parking and tipping?

For the most part I always self parked my '01 M5, but occassionally I valeted.

I think most likely I will be valeting the GT more, and I was wondering what a decent tip is, and if you always tip on both drop off and pick up. Again, not looking to set any records, or be the cheapest or the grandest - just trying to get a decent idea. Previously, I'd just give $2-3 over the cost of the parking with my previous cars, but I anticipate exotics dictate more...

Sorry to ask these lame questions, but I'd rather know now, then rub someone the wrong way...

...
SYCO,
Welcome.
Not sure you really want to have a valet park your car.
If I can't park it - then it don't get parked.
The same goes for service, if I am not allowed out on the service floor and in the service bay, it don't get serviced by them.
A quirk on my part?
Probably so, but there are just too many characters out there who look at it as an oportunity to get behind the wheel of a GT, and just can't resist doing things what they would not do if it were a 'normal' car.
Just my opinion.

Have some pimple faced kid start off in third gear and cost you a new clutch! I'm with Spirit! I park it myself in a safe location or not at all.

Thanks Spirit and Fjpikul-

Good advice about not letting anyone drive the car. I guess since I was paranoid about anyone driving my M5, I will be about 10x more paranoid about protecting the GT. I just didn't think it'd be appropriate to have the GT crammed into other cars in the common lot - but I guess that is much better than someone messed up my car mechanically.

So, in a tight fancy restaurant valet lot, you can just say, hey - I'd like to park this myself - I'll pay for a spot, and I'm gonna keep my own keys?
