Getting ready for spring here in the north country. Changing engine and transmission oil. I have a Ford oil cooler added. When draining the transmission oil. Will the oil cooler drain by gravity (higher than the transmission) or is there a special additional procedure? Likewise for refilling. Thanks

no other special procedure, just drain the transaxle throught the big bottom drian plug and fill up with enough fluid till it starts coming out of the top drain plug, should be around 4 1/2 quarts of transaxle fuid.

Just did mine last weekend with help of Sinovac in his beautiful garage with commercial four post lift. What a nice set up he has. I have Torrie's cooler
on mine. After thorough draining, mine took just under four quarts to start draining out of the top plug. We then started the car for a minute or so, ran it through gears a few times with clutch pedal depressed. Checked level again and were able to add a little over half a quart more.

Don't forget to clean the screen. There is more than one drain plug.

thanks for the help!!

Good point Frank. We did clean the screen, forgot to mention this. Sinovac has the Ford GT service manual, which was helpful, but not all inclusive.

With the transaxle cooler, I use a tip by another on the forum. After I have filled it up to the point of fluid at the level of the top filler threads, I put the plug back in and snug it up. I then take the sensor plug off the back of the transaxle unit; carfully as not to damage the O-ring; run a clear PVC tube from the sensor opening thru to the top of the tire, and squeeze in the last unit of fluid.
