Top Three (Classic) Thrill/Investment Cars You Hunger For

The Pinto has the great advantage for the driver as you never get any tailgators.

The Pacer looks like a flying saucer.

The Vega and a engine only a mother could love.

The Greblim as a precursor the the "smart" car.

At least one of the cars I listed relates to the other thread I posted..http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/showthread.php?21798-Breaking-News....Re.-Serotonin

I went to a military high school and drove a 72 Pinto. Dates were scarce.

First, add would a 57 XK 140 3.4 SE. At the limit of 120K would be a push to find one in good condition and that is correct.

Second, would be a 63 E Type Coupe. At 100+/- K would be easier to find a nicely restored car that is correct.

Last, would be a 89 911 Speedster. Low miles and good color combination can still be found for mid 80's. I think there is good upside for this car.

Why: XK would show well with my 57 T-Bird (E-code). 63 E Type would go well with the 63 Vette SWC and the 63 356B Cab. Speedster would look good with the other Porsche cars.

Bottom line I like these cars and are on the short list anyway.

I am not much for following rules and I never have considered an automobile as an investment, it would take the fun out of owning and using them.
So, here are cars:
Cruising
1959 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible (problem-would need police escort to make left turns in many cities. Might require CL to drive).
or
1914 Model T Touring

Thrill
427 Cobra Roadster
or
Spirit of America (one run at Bonneville)

Lust
1954-1957 300 SL (though the inadequate rear seat arrangements and gear shift would inhibit fulfilling some of the lust requirement.).

1969 Boss 302
1963 Split Window Vette
2000 Ferrari 550 Marenello

After these would still have money to spare from the 300K limit and could then hunt for a 4th.

I think I have 3 cars in my collection that qualify:

1. 73 455 Super Duty TA, one on 252 cars...16000 orig miles...this thing goes like hell.
2. 70 RA III TA, concours restoration, 4 speed with rare red interior

Pontiac is out of business and they are undervalued in the muscle car world.

Pick number 3. 67 427/435 Corvette Coupe, matching numbers, Marina blue
or my 23000 mile Ford GT (probably meets the criteria).

If they are "Celebrity Owned" you may not make it under the $300,000 limit!

Aren't Miura S's trading for $300-$500K and SV's for $600-$900K?

Why pre 75' on the Oakland winner?

not all mura 's are in the stratoshphere $$$$--at least I can continue the dream

Why pre 75' on the Oakland winner?

mid 70's nearly everything was still "old school" - late 70's,80's 90's same thing happened to hot rods as muscle cars, collector's items and over done creations, theme cars rather than right from the barn customs.

Here's a photo of the 701/2 TA, RA III. It was featured in a recent article in "High Performance Pontiac" magazine. Here's a link to their website.

I'll post up pics of the 73 Super Duty later today. I just got it and plan of waxing and detailing it.

Kevin,

Interesting list.

Corvette...a no brainier for some. Something special about the early ones with rare options.

I had a 69 Camaro for almost 20 years. Great choice if you can find a rare one.

Certainly do your research on the older cars before you buy.

The 550 Ferrari is also intriguing. I have read they are close or at the point where they might be a good investment/driver but a few major repairs or services will eliminate and gains. Be careful there. A pre purchase inspection is a must and one with any sort of deferred services are to be avoided. This article back up my thoughts. FYI...sportscarmarket is a good site for this thread topic.

Any no Viper ACR's on your list? Blasphemy! :biggrin
