Tires Directional?

FWIW, Just rotated tires on my sedan, here's what the guys at America's Tire Company said, they always rotate (non directional) tires front to back and switch the back tires on the front axle (I. e. Left rear is now Right front and Right Rear is now Left Front), after 4 rotations using this method all tires would have rotated once and went back as first installed. I had to draw it out to confirm, and he's right.

...regardless, that obviously couldn't be done on a FGT because of the difference in tire diameters on the front & rear.

'Interesting thread.

I have no idea if there's a huge diff in the 'belted tires being made today vs. yesterday, but, I can't recall a single tire dealer 'back in the day' who ever recommended rotating non-directional steel belts in any way other than front-to-back and back-to-front on the same side.

That said, 'back in the day' those supposedly 'in the know' also said we ought to change the oil & filter every 3,000 miles.

:shrug :willy:willy:willy

This diagram shows the generally accepted method for rotating non-directional tires on FWD and RWD cars with a square set up.

With the caveat here being the FGT does NOT have a "square" set up.

The front tires on our cars are not only a different size than the rears but also a different diameter wheel (as EP correctly states).

...also a different diameter wheel....

Right on, Indy - and different width and backspacing!

I can't believe Indy GT and RALPHIE have been withholding this critical tech info from us for all these years.
