So...started GT....odd starter sound, catches last second, backed out of garage, slight incline and parked; yellow engine light on. Turn off.

Go to re-start; nothing. Odometer flickers, no dash lights or gauges.

Take front tub out; ground strap bolt, eyelet wiggles side to side. Car restarts first turn, dash lights / gauges OK.

Note: paint line on bolt head and Frame line up; still loose; use adjustable wrench to quarter turn tight.

I tighten this exact bolt 2yrs ago; same thing happened then; turned car in place over slight incline & poof nonstart.

Pretty sure this ground strap bolt and nutsert work themselves loose with vibrations and torsion of frame. Not sure socket size#? of this bolt ; but keeping ratchet in seat pocket going fwd .

Check ur ground strap if you have any issues....

I think it is 10mm.

Kind of related – and I think somewhat interesting.

Starter/Generator on a Garrett 731 Jet engine has a separate grounding strap. This was the attach point to the airframe of the ground connect point which failed. I know it’s a lot more current (1200 amps initial draw @24V) but still I think shows the importance of a good ground…

I have seen a FGT tech use a star washer under the ground strap to frame connection.

What's the function of a star washer?

Is it providing tension between nut & bolt or does it crush in place?

I installed a second, redundant ground strap from the battery to the chassis, after being stranded in a parking lot. Found the problem and swore never to get stuck like that again.
