^^^ Otis, I don't think that matters, it's just the tire construction and how it's designed. I agree with the breakaway characteristics, and I've always preferred the rounder shoulders (usually found on Euro performance cars) to the squarer shoulders. But I don't think that's the situation here. I've not tried the SS, but I do have the MPSC (Pilot Sport Cups) on my 911 turbo, and if they made a size either stock for the GT or in the sizing of the Scuderia/GT2 tires to fit our GT's (like the Bridgestones), I'd have definitely gone with the Michelins. Yes, I like them THAT much. I can only imagine the MPSS tires are even better, certainly better than the Pilot Sports (non-cups) on my 2nd 911 rims. And the treadwear rating is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! Like almost double the Scuds, and nearly in keeping with the stock GY's.

Based on Michelin's track record (and my own experience with the MPSC), I don't think you can lose. Plus it's got that wider tread section. If you can live with the smaller overall diameter issue, I'd say go for it.

IMHO, in order for there to be a 38.1mm difference between the two, I would expect Bridgestone to have measured on an 11.5" wide rim and Michelin to have measured on a 13" wide rim.

I expect variations between manufacturers but that is a huge difference.

Do they also give you a contact patch width? that may be a more accurate indicator.

FWIW, I too was concerned about the low profile for both visual and ride quality. I went with the 265 and 345 Bridgestones and they perform beautifully and fill the fenderwells great.

EDIT, As Superfly reminded me, the Bridgestones are a heavy tire, keep that in mind.

Funnily enough, the Scuds were measured on a 13 and the MPSS on a 12. So even the opposite of what you and I both expected.

And FWIW, my reasons for choosing the 'stones were exactly the same as yours (although at the time I purchased tires, Michelin didn't make a tire in size that would work with 18/19 rim sizing, they did do one for 19/20, but I didn't want to get yet another set of rims.....). I've been VERY pleased with the look, ride, and performance of the 'stones. Incidentally, the 'wear' has also been surprisingly good so far!

Will any of our onboard computers get confused with the shorter Michelin rears compared to the stock-ish diameter fronts? ABS?

Hmmm, good question, I haven’t heard of anyone have a problem with the ABS light. Torrie would probably have the answer to this. If anyone decides to try the new Supersport tires, please let me know so that I can update the first post in this thread with the new data.

If I go with the PSS I'm planning to have them about the same reduction in size front and rear to the stocks. This should not impact the ABS.

You can flash tune the new diameter in order to correct the speedometer and odometer.

I don't think this will correct for the ABS cyclic mismatch.

What effect does the heavier weight of the Bridgestones have to do with road feel or performance?

Quiet ride and outstanding performance. Night and day compared to the GY.

I'm sold on the Bridgestones. Which ones and what size for the stock (option) BBS rims?

Thanks

Only one option on the rears... the 265 are closet the stock height but the 255 drop the front an equal amount compared to the rear. Either choice of front tire is a win. I went with the 265s and was very pleased.

I believe the Scuderia has been discontinued.
Didn't see them on the Bridgestone site.
There are still a few out there in wharehouses though.

I just checked, and while the "Scuderia" isn't listed anymore, they DO still list the tire size in the RE050A, so it looks like they still make it, but maybe they don't call it a 'scud' any longer? That may be reflective of the fact that it's not just going on Enzo's anymore, or it may be that they just want to change their marketing. But it does look like they're still making the tire (in size and performance anyway). My $0.02.

Just the facts ma'am, just the facts.

Please post brand and sizes that you are using (besides the OEMs).

I'm just trying to make a thread that is easy to use for those looking to get something different. Here is what we have so far:

The optional BBS forged wheels have the following specs:

Front Wheel:
5 Lug, 4.50" Bolt Circle
6.90" Back Spacing
50 mm Offset
18" x 9" Wide

Rear Wheel:
5 Lug, 4.50" Bolt Circle

19" x 11.5" Wide

I'm no math genius, but can someone explain the math on this post? It explains the percentage size difference in stock versus aftermarket tires. When I do the math I get much smaller differences. For example the stock versus michelin tires.

Diameter of the Goodyear rears are 28.921" versus 27.15" for the michelins. When I do the math I get a 6.12% reduction in diameter not 18.25%.

Also for the fronts Goodyear 26.327" versus Michelins 25.7" for only a 2.32% reduction instead of 18.91%. When I use 245/35/18 instead at 25" its a 5.8% reduction in size which seems a better match and is a touch wider.

Is my math bad?

Think tire circumference.
