Has this happened to anyone else? My tachometer stopped working the other day with only 1500 miles on the car. It looks like it may have disconnected from the pivot because I noticed its just a bit off center. First the Fuel neck ordeal now this.

Actually I wasn't even going over the speed limit! Im afraid to really put the hammer down since you guys told me I also need to change the rear transaxle bolts.

Ya, you really DO need to get those bolts replaced if your car is still running the factory ORIGIONALS. They WILL FAIL one day. There's no "if" about it. And "Murphy's Law" specifically states it'll happen at a most unopportune time.

I would look at the recommended deaers list and find one in your region.

A good dealer with SVT/Ford GT experience can deal with both Axle bolts/codes/fuel filler (if needs) in 1-2 days. The tach needle can be re-attached.

After that you probably wont have any issues EVER.

These cars are very robust; most issues are from lack of use/sitting/bad gas/weak battery.

speaking about axle bolts

i found out after making many inquiries, that my axle bolts were not done.
i went to my local dealer today to set up an appointment under warranty and was told that the warranty recall ended 1-09 on this repair.
i called the hotline and told them that if i have an accident do to bolt failure, that i would sue everyone involved with the cancellation of this recall.
they approved my repair in 5 minutes and it will be done next wednesday.

Thats a good one!! If I cant pull that off where can I purchase these super strong bolts? Did Ford purchase the original bolts from the Home Depot?

Thanks! Do you know how they re-attach the needle? Could I do it myself?

Ford offers a nuke proof 'bolt kit over the parts counter - OR you can buy/use Accufabs bolt kit. Either kit is bulletproof & will last 'til the 2nd coming. IOW, you'll never touch either set again..:cheers.

Needle fell off

Pulling the tachometer is difficult but not impossible. See other posts about instrument cluster removal. Use the blue tape everywhere. If you think you used enough then you didn't use enough. The plastic panel that surrounds the gauge is expensive $3000.00!!!!!! You cannot temove the gauge glass silver ring without very special tools and experience. once removed the pointer easily presses on to the shaft. maybe a drop of locktite? Kevin at North Hollywood speedometer. is extremely helpful with these gauges. He can get the ring off. He's done it a bunch of times. I would contact him. READ ALL THE POSTS ABOUT CLUSTER REMOVAL> THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL.

Scooter, My tach stopped working with only 40 miles on my car. After several months of denial, I decided to let the GT Guys replace it at GTJoeys Barn II event. They provided me with a replacment tach and Dennis did a perfect job replacing it. i think it added another 50 horses:lol

PS, they also did my bolts.....

My tach needle fell off also. I had a Ford dealer fix it under warranty, I think that they replaced the tach rather than re attach the needle. I got a look at the repair order and they had billed 5,800.00 to the warranty repair. I ended up with a few light scratches on the dash surround (hard to see but there) and some other damage from a different warranty issue. I was not a happy camper and have not taken the car in for work at a dealer since even though the dealer that did the damage offered to fix it. I would rather pay someone to repair the damage rather than have the guys that caused the problem in the first place "fix" it.

Sad to hear.

I don't think anyone uses as much blue tape and Shadowman. A those that don't usually get the results you unfortunately have.
