Shift lever moving in 6th gear when throttle on and off!

Has anyone seen their shift lever move by itself when applying the throttle, or releasing it? On my car the shift lever moves back about 1/4", measured at the top of the ball, when the engine is under power in 6th gear. Then when throttle is release the shift lever moves forward by the same amount. It doesn't happen in any other gear. Also no shifting problems, noises, or vibrations.

What is causes this? Should I worry about any damage to the car?

I thought it was normal. I play a game with my kids using this 6th gear shifter movement...

It is probably normal, although I have not noticed this because I have not been looking for it and because I RARELY go into 6th gear.

I have noticed it, and am not concerned.

Shifter Wag

I asked a development team member about that because I have it too. He called it shifter wag! They even have a name for it. I think it is poor but seems to come from the shaft travel in the transaxle. I don't see a way to fix it. :confused

I have noticed that if you look close enough, you can notice this (to a lesser extent) in every gear (or at least more than just 6th)

Wiggle

Mine wiggles or wags in all gears too. So far I have been able to keep my wife off of it. :banana

Same here... wigles in all gears. I keep my mind off of it by squeezing the shifter boot. Give it a try then think of what it feels like.

The transmission shifts by "push pull" cables. These are unlike standard cables like motorcycle brake cables (if you remember when motorcycles had brake cables). Imprecision in these cables is more prevelent on the "push" than the "pull" but the larger problem is unwanted movement caused by the entire cable moving because it is insufficiently restrained. The cable movement can only be caused by the transmission/motor shifting or the cable not being properly or completely restrained. If the transmission/engine is moving nothing can probably be done. If the cable is insufficiently restrained throughout its length that is likely fixable. Loose clamp (s) or a missing needed clamp on its longest unrestrained part. If I have not expalined these cables well enuf go to Mc Master dot com and do a search on push pull cable for a picture. When I first heard about the GT one of the things I really wasnt thrilled about was a cable shifted transmission. What was wrong with the Pantera solid mechanical linkage ? --although the Countach methodology was best, albeit a bit radical.
