Saleen Gurney Bubble Install:

I have Gurney Bubble #3 and love it! I bought a new door and kept the original for future.

"Didn't Gurney win in a non-gulf sponsored car?"

Gurney's LeMan's winning car was a Ford entry (specifically for LeMans) in 1967. According to Ronnie Spain's GT40 bible, his MkIV was the only car built with the bubble due to his 6'4" height. No Mk1 or MkII GT40s had a bubble when built. Some may have been retrofitted after seeing the MklV.

Many of the factory GT40's and Mark IV's had bubbles fitted, as they didn't necessarily know which car he would have to drive, and if necessary, he might be transferred to another car if his failed. However, they weren't refitted with them until Gurney joined the team in '66, but I believe his Mark II at Sebring had the bubble.

This bottom silhouette photo is magnificent.
Re the 30 years from now thing, we'll all need straight pipes just to hear if they're running...

From "Ford GT - Then, and Now" by Adrian Streather:

Pages 55 & 56 show bubbles on the 1966 Le Mans Alan Mann cars and the 3rd place chassis P/1016.

Pages 65 & up give some information on the various bubbles that were installed on the GT40's and Mark IV's.

I've never seen any pictures of JWA's P/1074, P/1075, or P/1076 with a bubble in their doors (the Gulf cars).

I'd have trouble justifying the bubble .At 5'6 I fit perfect in race cars or GT's
I just saved some cash !! I knew there was some advantage to not being taller !

bubble is like a 'bump' in your Levi's...
always good to have one :)
