Hey I found this and maybe you have seen this B/4 but it is a 30 page PDF on the mechanical powertrain devolpment for the GT.

Very interesting read.

This one section of many that is in a great book (SAE website is down as I write this so I can't dig up the link) but the book is great, being the car geek I am, I read the whole thing. Covers ALOT, and the second half is the same detail and SAE whitepapers about the original GT-40. Highly recommended, but too bad it is something like $90 but if you want more than you need to know, this is the source.
