Question regarding "Whipple'd" cars

Right now I have the 2.7 pulley, ECU tune, and FR exhaust & headers. With that combo, I dyno'd at over 630 rwhp, and 600 rwtq. A lot of times the car overpowers the rubber in 1st and 2nd, and it requires some decent throttle modulation to maintain traction.

I understand that the Whipple cars can go over 800hp. My question to the guys that have done this, is the car manageable? I'm sure in 3rd gear (and up) that the car pulls like a bat out of hell, but what about 1st and 2nd gear, are they useable?

Any details you can give me would be appreciated. I am sitting on the fence about making the change. I love the power, but I want it to be useable. Thanks for your input!

Yes after driveing big HP vipers.

I have two one modded with pulley and alot of other things, and a whipple
car.You have to roll the power on easy,1 is a not but 2 you will get the hang
of it.You will Buy lots of tires. It never stops pulling

If you could only pick one, would it be the Whipple car? Is this a stupid question? :wink

The Whipple without question. Once you've experienced the extra power you can't go back. I skipped the pulley and went straight to the Whipple so I don't have a comparison but the Whipple makes about 100 hp more than the pulleys that I've seen stats on. Mine was 732 rwhp and something like 680 lbs torque.

In the long run it's money well spent.:thumbsup

Which pulley are you running on your car, and what is the minimum octane requirement? Thanks Texas GT.

19 lb pulley, 93 octane. Accufab X-Pipe and throttle body. Heffner installed and dynoed it.

Also, I haven't really had a problem with traction in first gear. You just have know your limitations. You really can't just stomp on a stock car either. It definitely will break loose but if you expect it, it can be fun.

On an airport runway I was able to punch it when I shifted to second without traction problems but I definitely can't do that on the streets. I'll bet a dragstrip would give plenty of traction also.
