Pulley Upgrade, the details

Am I correct in saying the when people talk about a pulley change, they are actually changing the whole snout, not just the pulley itself?
No, you are incorrect. The majority of the folks change the pulley and add the tune. A few folks in addition to the pulley go the Kenne Bell route with their snout, others add the Acufab throttle body and stiffner. Most change the exhaust. Then the big dogs go the Whipple route and those who wish to take no prisoners have Heffner twin turbo their gals. Of course if your name is Joe Piko all the above is just child's play.:rofl

Ditto

Are most people foregoing the Accufab throttle body as not needed, with a pulley swap, SCT flash, and Accufab Exhaust and stiffner?

I have the same question!

TB is not needed, but you'd probably pick up 10rwhp with it...

Actually I was told by a VERY RELIABLE SOURCE that it may get you 6 HP under ideal conditions and will not make a difference until you are in the 150 mph territory.

Is the pulley just pulled with a puller and the new one pressed on with a hydrolic press? Someone told me the pulley had to be heated first. Is that not so, or does it depend on whether you use an aluminum or steel pulley?

We all know that increasing blower speed at a given RPM creates more heating of the air at that rpm ...which at SOME point will create a LOSS in HP, not a "gain".

So, my question is: was the STOCK pully ratio on the STOCK blower as it came from the factory actually underdriven as far as "optimum" boost/air temp/ HP, etc. were concerned?

In other words - at what point ...what pulley "ratio"... is one "overreving" the blower?:shrug

('Anybody know the actual cu. in. the blower displaces?)

Not so Beach...The GT Guys just (again I make it sound overly simple :) ) pull the old pulley which is steel and press the new aluminum heffner pulley on...only major work is pulling the snout of the supercharger to get it to the press and then making sure to seal it back up and fill it back with fluid.

The stock Eaton twin screw blower is actually make by Lysholm in Sweden. If you google Lysholm, there is a lot of info on their 2300 series blower, which is the stock GT unit repackaged by Eaton.

Sounds like the TB mainly looks nice. But I am going to pass on it then, if the gains are minimal.

Thanks everyone for the input! I know these topics have been battered about, but the new input is helpful.

I would definitely be into having the GT Guys come out and install a short shift kit, accufab x-pipe, SCT Tune and stiffener. Probably pulley swap as well.

How hard could it be to entice them to come to Southern California?

Then I would be done for a while...

I sent the Rich, a request to contact me regarding coming to SoCal and started calling around to see whom else would be interested. It sounds like the two of us are in. Anyone else?

I'm in the process of my first GT pulley swap for a customer, and the blower was on my workbench in 1.5 hours. I expect 1.5-2 hours to complete the install, and a couple more on the rollers.

welcome, what is a roller?

CHASSIS DYNO MEBBE?

CHASSIS DYNO MEBBE?
Bingo ;)
The GT is unconfortable, unpractical, and rides like a tank. I LOVE it :biggrin

Thanks for the welcome.

I'll have my white/blue GT in Heffner's shop next month doing the pulley mod. Can't wait! :thumbsup

I had installed the Heffner tune and their pulley. Months later did a dyno as the before base before the install of the big Whipple. I was pulling with the stock Heffner tune and no toying with it at all 600rwhp. The car ran like a dream, now it runs like a kid from the projects trying to avoid his bail bondsman:lol :rofl :lol

Do we need to secure our own upgrade parts if the GT Guys come?

Or can they supply parts too? (exhaust, sct, shifter, etc.)

Here is a suggestion, take the California Registry that Awsum produced and contact everyone in your geographical area. The GT GUYS can do maintenace, upgrade and can source the parts. Find someone that has a garage, with a lift if possible, but minimum is an air compressor. Find out how many guys you can round up since their travel expenses will be shared by the group. Then after getting your information assembled contact Rich. I would start a thread in the regional section, I will be glad to give it a sticky.
