With the global financial markets the way they are, Ferrari and other exotic cars ALWAYS follow closely. I think that there will be some real buys out there. I am watching the Porsche Carrera GT market closely right now, as I believe that their short-lived run-up will come back down as margin calls, etc. make some owners liquidate. I have watched the correlation between the financial markets and the used exotic market closely over the past 10 years. Hang on to those FGT's!!! When the market comes back, pent-up demand will drive the prices way up, trust me!

Tim you are my hero........

But I did not buy mine for investment.......

why wouldn't you do your own basic service on an Fcar?

I think my malfunction about twisting my own wrench on an Fcar is due to the costs of parts and frequency of maint. One of the things that I truly love about the GT is its motor DNA is basically truck (built tough, over engineered with huge reserves and not overly fragile .. see 1000 hp without cracking open the block ... just add turbos) and someone like me who is a good mechanic but not a professional can tinker without much fear of basic stupidity.

I purchased my Lotus for the same reason ... toyota DNA.

The fcars .... nice works of art (especially the older cars) but like a horse ... given the choice between an Arabian, Thourghbred, or a big quarter horse. I'd take the quarter horse. Just as fast and not brittle. If I want to wonder if I am going to break down then I'll drive my Fiat 124 spider.

nothing really wrong with working on them ... just not for me.... not yet at least.

Logically, it would follow that you'd get whatever year car was being made in that model at the time your order came up.

If I remember correctly (and F-cars owners - pls correct), the year of the car is determined by what it's VIN # shows as an assembly date.

Or am I all wet here?

Yes VIN# although the state goes by year licensed (sometimes). The ford GTmotor costs not much more than changing the belts on my BB512i because the motor must come out. Viva GT:cheers Jim

"I am watching the Porsche Carrera GT market closely right now"
Tim:
I think the P C GTs have already had their day in the sun. A huge P dealer had 2 that were basically glued to the showroom floor. The dealer won't admit as much, but he sold both well under MSRP.
A young software guru was at the Barrington Concours. He had 2 of them, told my associate he bought one new, one used, both well under MSRP. The kid has an Enzo too. Nice work if you can get it.
He didn't say as much, but numerous other Porsche Club of America guys were surrounding my (your former) GT, and many said it was the supercar they'd pop for, if for no other reason(s) than looks and/or performance bang for the buck.

I'll say this though. The Carrera GT in black or silver is a wicked looking car (but the interior still looks goofy to me, especially the gearshift. Can you imagine Ferrari making a shifting mechanism look so out of place in a supercar?).

I have driven a CGT back to back with a Ford GT (only briefly, but you can even see me doing so on the cover of the Jan '05 issue of Automobile Magazine), and the CGT is, even in that context, breathtaking.

It is only worth as much as someone else is willing to pay. I think everything is going to come down in price as the economy is in the toilet. I don't think the Ford GT will drop below 100k but it is going to come down in price before it comes back up.
Pretty much here it is: Unless the car is so rare (less than a few hundred), it will depreciate for the first 10 years after it rolls of the lot. After 10 years it will start to appreciate, due to inflation rarity etc.

Now the Ford GT is holding its ground much better than any other car, but eventually the inevitable occurs. Which I am hoping it does a come down in the next 3 to 5 years because I plan on buying one.

I would bet my spare Ford GT owner's book (the hardbound one with all the trick page designs inside), that it will NOT take 10 years for the GT to start appreciating. The only possible caveat to that would be if Ford created the GR-1, and even then it's only possible that action would do it, not certain.

Course, since I'm not selling mine in the next 10 days or 10 years it doesn't much matter either way. :cheers

Per Edmonds findings..

Retained Value
Some exotic car shoppers are foolish enough to consider their purchase an investment, but most recognize automobiles for the horrid investments they are. That said, the Ford GT has performed remarkably well in terms of depreciation. The exotic car market is always a bit suspect because of the low number of vehicles that change hands and the often unique nature of any given transaction.

All I have to say is she is my paid for ho and every time I take her out she attracts attention, she don't bitch, she puts out, and she is friggin PRICELESS :biggrin

Can't argue with that. When you hear people say, "Beyond all the perfomance and style there are the intangibles you just can't put a value on." Well, your description is as good as any I've heard on those "intangibles." :lol

Until Porsche releases a retro 917-10 or 917-30, or McLaren (MB) releases a retro M1B through M20, I'll wait about buying another "supercar," and then I'll consider buying another one - until then, my Ford GT will remain as my only exotic!

(unless Ford builds a GT Mark II)

Tim - If you acquire one of those beauties, you're obviously going to store it in AZ - not Ohio, right? If so, I'll hold the BBQ at my place and we'll get some other local FGT guys together to take a gander.

Well regardless, I'll do a BBQ at my place. Just seemed like a good excuse. :cheers
