On behalf of myself, Marsha and Keith, I want to send a big “Thank You” to all of you who came out to challenge the runway. This time, the wind stayed away, but the heat sure didn’t, as it was HOT! There were a total of 57 car entries and 15 bike entries, which is a light turnout, but we suspected this would be the case with all of the other racing events on the board in September. One of our goals was to also validate the 2-day format, as well as running in the opposite direction from the March event. We are very satisfied with those goals, and we got a lot of great feedback on the small (and, not so small) details which we can polish up for next season. (Yes, we WILL mark the finish line better!)
Speaking of next season, we are scheduling two events, in April and October, for 2011. We will have the exact dates up as soon as we can lock them in with the Mojave Airport. We encourage all of you to link, copy, post, whatever, any information found here or on the main page, to any website you desire to get the word out. We will be freshening up the website and ramping up our promotional effort in the offseason too, and we’ll be expecting a BIG crowd in April!
Results: We have the preliminary results ready for posting, pending a few items that need to be resolved for final accuracy. The trophy winners are:
Fastest Motorcycle, Land Speed Division: John Noonan, 251.1 mph, currently the fastest bike and overall Mojave Mile record.
Fastest Car, Land Speed Division: Jim Hahn, 181.2 mph
Fastest Bike, Standard Divisions: Tom Krause, 199.9 mph
Fastest Car, Standard Divisions: Bob Griffith, 222.7 mph, currently the fastest car record at the Mojave Mile
Index Challenge Winners: 160 mph class, Philip Steinberg, 166.5 mph
150 mph class, Linda Rosenblum, 152.3 mph
Some “Special Recognition” Awards (no prizes or trophies, here, just good fun):
“Iron Butt” award: Eric Anderson, 26 runs on him Kawasaki ZX14
“Wanna Buy A Used Car?” Award: Tom Fries, who made 23 runs in his Ford GT, 21 of which were over 200 mph
“Close, but No Cigar” Award: Tom Krause, who tried 20 times to break the 200 mph barrier, but only got to 199.9, with 8 runs over 198 mph!
“The Mouse that Roared” Award: Dustin Schiller, who went 201.3 mph on a 600cc motorcycle. (Very Impressive!)
Keep checking in to the website for updates in the offseason, and we look forward to seeing you next year.
