Preemptive Maintenance Tip - Shifter Cables

Just checked mine….my car is arguably not safe to drive….hard to get a pic but the wear is well through the cable casing.
Thanks Kendall..now I have to see if I can source a new cable.

The good news is that there still could be cable manufacturing here in the states that can produce a perfect facsimile.

Ours has 47k miles and took this pic today of underside of the cable. Thanks for the heads up!1000005711.jpg

MIne has 43K on it. Earlier today I went out, didn't take a picture, but from the feeling of it, it is probably very similar to yours. Car still shifts great. I zip-tied mine to raise it like the others did. Boy, I love this forum!

Just zipped up mine this morning. For those who are having trouble locating the cables from the close up pictures in this thread (I did), they are located off the rear of the engine in the middle.

You can do all the zip tieing from the top of the car, and I found it easier to do it from the driver side. I chose to use two zip ties (one for each) as I felt some resistance trying to push them together. Damage wise, my car has 33k miles, I could feel some deformation underneath but nothing as bad as JGT noticed.

Thanks for the tip!

63k miles on my 2005. Zip tied the “at risk” shifter cable today. No evidence of wear on the area of contact.

I zip tied mine also. Then I felt along the cables back into the engine cavity to see what they may now rub on. One of my cables rubbed right on a sharp corner portion of the head. So, I cut pieces of hose lengthwise, placed them on the cables, zip tied both ends and let them lay on the tranny.

Zipped up no apparent wear. Only on this forum you get this kind of info.
