Peterson Museum--Phil Hill etc

I forget how lucky you SoCal guys are. I am visiting my LA office and went to the Peterson museum (again). That Supercar floor is amazing with the 40, miura, F40 and 50 etc. ( as well as the 06 GT)

They also currently have a Phil Hill exhibit which is outstanding. Go if you get a chance.

I attended the "Tribute to Phil Hill" last month at the Peterson; 50 years ago, I remember waxing the family Pierce Arrow with Phil, then we'd take it out and follow up want ads for Pierce's and Packards. That Pierce Arrow won Best of Show at Monterey's Concurs de Elegance many years ago. He was very fond of the old Packards.

Cool story Ralphie. I have to go back to So Cal after the first for a few weeks and plan on going to the Peterson, hope the display is still there.

Yes - it was the family car that Phil inherited from his Uncle, who was the Postmaster of Santa Monica. The car has always remained in the family. Two of the three Packards restored by Phil in the display, are still owned by the family.

For the tribute and display, Jim Hall (of Chaparral fame) sent over a 750 Monza Ferrari that Phil won the 1953 Pebble Beach Road Race, along with the Chaparral 2E that Phil won the 1966 Monterey Grand Prix Can-Am race. Jim attended the tribute along with Dan Gurney, Denise McCluggage, Bobby Rahal, Parnelli Jones and Jay Leno. Dan didn't bring his GT to the event. Because of the recent snow in Mammoth, I also didn't take my GT, but borrowed my daughter's Maserati Coupe for the event.

And by the way , I really got a sense of how special the GT is in looking at the Supercar display yesterday. Forgetting collector value there was no car on that floor IMO, hotter looking than the modern day GT.

No, MJ - I didn't take a camera, but my friend Ed had his cell phone camera. He hasn't sent me any yet, though.
