ditto everything empty pockets told you plus !!!!
it got to the point with mine(before i sold her), that i was a ball of nerves everyplace i took it.
not sure where you live, but trust me, new jersey is no-place for such a car as the gt for more reasons than i have time to explain !!!!

last week went to a car show, one of my prowler club members stopped at a coffee shop(wawa) with his prowler on the way to the show. he parked in the far back lot and took up two spots. when he came out of the store and got to his car, someone had keyed the "entire" passenger side. he claims this occured in less than 10 minutes)
had that been my gt(or any of my cars), i'd probably be in intensive care right now !

good luck to you

sam

Fortunately I live on the central coast of california and we have a lot of great lonely roads in the middle of nowhere to let the girl run wild and really mimimal traffic. Only problem I have encountered thus far is the parking issue and that seems universal to all of us. Car is too damn much fun for that to get me down though:thumbsup!!!

Mild Mannered in My Old Age???

I don't know about the rest of ya'll but before my GT was delivered I had already decided not to expose such a voluptuous work of art to the unappreciative. With a pair of hips like my beauty has :eekyou know there will always be that "hardleg" who will test your manhood.

There's nothing better than takin' Ole BLu out on the back roads and driving her like I stole her:banana; then drivein' thru the local shopping center to give all the "Looky Lues" the highlight of their day:thumbsup.

Parking (especially valet parking:frown) has never been an issue. She's never been left "alone". My co-pilot or I stay with the vehicle. When piloting solo I never park the beauty and leave her :frown.

When shopping, parking or dining are on the schedule we always use one of our other vehicles:thumbsup.

From the day I took delivery of Ole Blu I told my wife there are way to many "idiots" out there who will key your car simply because they don't have one:ack.

Envy & Jealousy are as rampant & destructive as they have been since the beginning of time:thumbsdow.

I have to say reading this post I was thinking of ChrisA the whole time. Then I got to his post and there was the answer sitting there real pretty. I agree with Chris new doors hinges are the only way to get around this issue.

Isn't being in your GT with no were to park safely being handicapped enough. I say use it just don't abuse it.

+10 to Ole Blue. You guys who park your GT's in a lot UNATTENDED, well let's just say that you should not have bought this car. It's not a grocery getter or a convertible for you to drive by waving at your friends on the golf course. IT'S A DRIVER'S CAR! It should be driven only where it can do 100 plus. If I ever take it to a restaurant, I will arrange ahead of time to have a 2 wide spot waiting for me guarded, or I don't bring it. A GT parked anywhere will bring business to that establishment. If you don't appreciate that it's this special, than you really don't get it. :frown

Call a tow truck

I use the end curb technique whenever possible, no matter what I'm driving, but it's critical in the GT or GT40. But I do agree that there are some places you just don't want to take certain cars - that's what your fuel guzzling SUV is for.

There's another way to handle the situation when you get boxed in, as suddenly occurred to me when my wife and I got blocked in by a bright red H3 with more chrome than a pimpmobile. There's not a Victoria's Secret supermodel skinny enough to have gotten in the driver's side door of our Range Rover Sport. My wife said she'd just get in the passenger's side, climb over the console and back it out. I was instantly pissed when I saw how close the Hummer was, and said, "You're NOT crawling over the console; I've got a better idea." I walked into the Hallmark store we were parked in front of and rather loudly asked, "Does anyone own the red Hummer parked out front?" A woman who was as wide :frown as the Hummer whipped her head around and headed for the door. She looked like the arrogant type, but I think she was scared that her Hummer had been dinged. I ripped on her all the way out the door -- loudly enough so that everyone in the store knew what an inconsiderate jackass she was for blocking me in. I glared at her while she backed out, watching clearances, and deliberately didn't say thank you. I hope she was so embarrassed that for the next day or two she actually paid attention to where she was parking. I haven't had to do this yet, but if it was a larger store I wouldn't hesitate to have the vehicle's driver paged. As a last resort, I'd demand that the store call a tow truck to move the other vehicle. :lol

On parking valets: I'm very leery of valets and I'm no fan of Barrett-Jackson, but I have to compliment their valets this year. They let us park the GT ourselves in the spot we chose, let us keep the keys, and let us retrieve the car ourselves. Of course they got a nice big tip in return. :cheers

AMEN to everything you stated.

I only actually "parked" my GT at one particular restaurant we go to almost every wknd. There's one spot where our cars are always "safe"(?)(as in nobody can park beside it or box it in in any way) - and the restaurant owner always sees to it we're seated where we can keep an eye on whatever car we show up in. And trust me - I DO for the exact reasons you stated, Blu!

'Only other place the GT was ever parked was at the bank (twice ...both times on a Saturday) - for about 5 minutes each time ... and wifey stayed in the car while I popped in & out of the place. Needless to say, the GT was parked at an angle across two "end" parking places in a far corner - even for THAT brief amount of time. (One of those times I came out to find two couples chatting with my wife about the car...and I'd literally only been in the bank for about 3 minutes! They'd spotted the GT from the street.)

Then on the OTHER side of the coin we have PL510*Jeff!!! That guy has ice water runnin' thru his veins!!! The dude parked HIS GT outside a local bayside restaurant (in a space I'd hand picked for him far away from God and everybody), and he never even checked on it until we'd finished lunch and went back out to our cars!!! JEFF IS JUST PLAIN NUTS!!! :rofl

Some people are nice though - last August when I went to the Historics @ Laguna Seca, the motel manager offered me a single space that had a Greek type concrete column at each corner - his normal parking place! Needless to say, I took him up on his offer.

Oh Dear.. how many negative and gloomy thoughts....

It's a car. Get over it. The 1st ding/scratch is the one that hurts the most. The ones that follow add caracther to the car.

Do you expect to see a 288 GTO without a ding?

Mid engine man... so you drive it only when/where you can do 100 plus uh? You know that a tiny stone at 100+ will make a big chip on your hood or can brake your headlamps?

I suppose you track it most of the time as 100mph are illegal on most roads in the US. Well the racetrack is more dangerous than a parking lot to the paint...

If there is no "safe" spot in a public parking lot I usually try and find another lot but never use the handicapped reserved spots.... it's not a big deal if I need to walk 400 yards.

All I am saying is that there are different reasons we all bought this car. Some of us bought it to drive it everywhere, some to track it, some to use only in special occasions where they can get 2 spaces arranged in advance, some of us to look at when it sits in the garage...

I think all of them are perfectly reasonable.

I understand the frustrations of the original starter of the thread. But I smile and think it's another story of me and the FORD GT I can tell my grandkids in 40yr time.

Have a great long weekend ya'll :cheers

FYI: The "valve stem" is the mechanism that holds the air in the tire.
