Overheating Issues

Luck of the Irish Gino. Merry Xmas!

I have underheating issues. On a cold day (35 degrees), my temperature takes about 15-20 minutes just to get up to 165 & it gets no higher, all the while the heater is barely blowing out any cabin heat. I thought that most new cars came with 180-190 degree thermostats?

I seem to have the same problem of under-heating. I suspect a stuck open thermostat myself but have not checked it yet. In cold or not so cold mornings it takes 20 minutes to warm up. At 40 degree outside air my temp is no higher than about 170. Coasting down a hill it gets to 130 degrees with no heater heat. In stop and go traffic it then can get up to 210-220 and the heater works like a charm.
To have a temperture change of 80 or 90 degrees seems way excessive.
I need to check my thermostat, temp gauge, radiator, etc.
Does the heater core get its water from the engine and not the water between the engine and radiator?
Any other ideas?
