Oil pressure drops to zero for a second?

Hey guys,

Today I was sitting in traffic, I noticed the oil pressure dropped to zero and then the "check gauge" light came on. Then about 1-2 seconds later, the pressure pops back up to normal and the warning light went off as well. It happened twice in about 10 minutes, both times during idle at a light. The gauge operates normally while driving as far as I can tell.

Anyone seen this? Hoping its the sender and not the gauge on its way out.

Thanks for any help.

I would estimate its the sender. I can get one for you if needed.

mine did this a few times. we hooked a mechanical gauge up to it and oil pressure was fine. It hasn't done it in a little while.

when it did happen if I gave it a little gas to 1000/1100 rpms the gauge went back to normal.

Day, just make sure you dont hear a lot of rattling . Nine out of 10 its the unit, but just check underneath, as some have an issue with oil pumps....rare so far but see if you have a leak around the pump....gtjoey1314

Also checkbur dipstick within 1mim of engine shutdown, just to make sure ur not down a quart

Check Gage comes on with low oil

Thanks for the advice guys, I do think the sending unit just had a couple seconds off. This is the first time I've seen it do it, if it continues I'll investigate further. I wonder if it had to do with the 106* temp record here in Austin, my god it was hot. Hottest I've driven in the GT.

About 2 years ago my car did exactly that in heavy traffic...happened twice within10 minutes..........i had it checked...nothing abnormal...and although I have been very close to 240 on the track...I have never again seen that happen............very weird............
