My technique on right lane changes is to check to ensure that no one is approaching at a high rate of speed via the right side mirror and then (rather than worry about trying to determine if someone is in the blind spot) put your right foot to the floor, wait a second, and change lanes. My theory is anyone who might be in the blind spot must be in a slower car thus I'll blow by him/her and can safely move into the right lane once I've jumped on it!:wink

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. In my spare time I teach defensive driving and one of the things we emphasize is proper side mirror adjustment to eliminate the blind spot. You shouldn't see ANY of your own car in either side mirror (sounds obvious when you say it out loud). Try it if you haven't yet.

Good point, Howard. But after you drive one of these for a little while, you'll be amazed at how other cars seem to appear from nowhere regardless of where your mirrors are set. (For instance: "lane hoppers" crossing behind you from the Rt lane to the left lane when YOU'RE in the "middle" lane. In a normal car, you'd see 'em easily thru the rear window. Not so in the GT. Especially if that car is another 2 seater.)

The proceedure Kierkink outlined is my std lane change method ... minus the "floor it" part. Regardless of what my mirrors say, I always assume there's a car off my qtr panel (because 90% of the time - there will be) ... so I tap the accelerator, THEN signal, then change lanes. That way my GT has at least 3 lenghts on "the other guy" B4 he can react & play "cut off" games. ( I get real tired of that game real fast.)

I don't ever trust what mirrors tell me. I always check "over my shoulder" first. But, in a GT it's pretty much a wasted effort. Hence my "tap & go" lane change method. THAT works everytime.:cheers

Welcome Home........Just one thing , she will get loose real easy and her ass wants to come out to play real fast....Go slow till you get to know her.... awsome power at all RPMs and just plain nasty 4k and beyond!!...

Thanks for all the good words and good advice. As a 1976 911 owner I'm familiar with the rear trying to become the front syndrome. That being said, I also know that 165hp is not 550hp. I'll be driving like a frightened little girl for a long time.

The GT is MUCH more predictable than a 911 in this. You can control how much the rear goes out with your right foot.
With the 911 it always happens in one instant and it's when you lift.
With the GT the back comes out to play at the end if u open up too early.

The 911 is great because when u have it settled you can just floor it and you know it'll just nail the turn.

The GT is easier in the turn in phase, but needs more tact in corner exit .

How's you GT? I have to say, when your GT was on eBay, the pics were so good that I used a few of them for my screensaver. Tungsten with Red Calipers looks GREAT:thumbsup . Hope you are still enjoying it.

Enjoying it? Yes, that's a fair statement. It causes a commotion wherever it goes. I brought it to a local dealer to program a second key (only one came with the car) and the car emptied the building. Salesmen, mechanics, secretaries. The mechanics told me that they've sold half a dozen and they never see them again. Who does dealer service in the North Jersey area? It threw a 1450 engine code at me ("unable to maintain fuel tank vacuum") so I exercised the fuel flapper valve and lightly lubed the o-ring seal. The code has not reappeared. Lloyd mats on order. My garage has never looked so good.
