New 2005 GT Owner

I am surprised how many don’t want the GTG clamshell lever.

Next to the Bridgestone tires, short shifter (and leatherette boot), and bumper delete, it’s my favorite upgrade. 😄
With multiple ways to easily open it the way it is, I just don't see the value.

Looks like you need more mods....LOL

3.8L Whipple, Full length Ford Headers with cat delete, Ohlins on all 4 corners, Mac relocation, LED headlights, CF gauge surround and A/C vents, and working on a duplicate interior in Red to switch back and forth as it suits my fancy.

And STILL, the GTG lever is one of the best upgrades I have made, hands down.

And I am equally surprised how many people have considered them. Y'all know the fundamental purpose of the clamshell safety latches, right? They're NOT there to make it easy to open but to insure that the clamshell and the car don't part ways if there's a latch failure or a passenger inadvertently says, "what's this lever do?" The OEM safety latches are spring loaded and the latches are lightweight so that the g-force on the latch lever can never exceed the spring force. They've been engineered, tested and certified to work. In contrast, the latch bars that we've seen have no springs and no positive engagement. The latch levers are heavy so at rest, good 'ol gravity is their friend. There's a multitude of scenarios where they won't engage/work. In my opinion, opting for the bar is just one step short of removing the safety latches all together. Any shop worth its salt will install only after a liability waiver is signed. To each his own.

Interesting. My lever most certainly is sprung. Snaps back with authority when you let go.
