My 2005 Ford GT is leaving...but some cool parts remain

Well Gentlefolk, this is both a sad and happy day for me.

Sad because my 13-year (plus 2-weeks, but who's counting...) relationship with my 2005 Ford GT, VIN#1456, is coming to an end tomorrow.

I've found a buyer, a very cool/high-profile buyer, who I know will take good care of her and continue to enjoy her as much as I have over the past 31,253 miles (but who's counting...). I'll leave it to the new buyer to announce the purchase on his schedule, and I'd rather not share what mine sold for.

The car leaves at 9:30 tomorrow morning, and like many of us bitten by the Ford GT bug I collected A LOT of GT-related bits over the past 16 years of my life. My collecting started 3 years before I got my car, at the 2002 Detroit Auto Show when it made its world debut. In fact, one of the items I'm selling is the press kit from that show.

That's the sad news, the happy news is I'm getting a new 2019 Ford GT, hopefully in the next 4 months or so. My order is locked and the first half of the money sent.

Which brings me back to the point of this post -- HELP! I need to pay for the second half of my 2019 Ford GT! (cue the "If you're selling stuff to pay for your new Ford GT you got bigger problems" comment...)

If you're a fan of the 2005-2006 Ford GT (I know I still am...as painful as facing that will be from now on...) you might be interested in the below items:

I have links below but you can see all the Ford Racing accessories I've listed here in this online PDF of the 2006 Ford Racing catalog, which is pretty cool to look through even if you aren't interested in these parts... https://www.rocketcitymustang.com/articles/2006-frpp.pdf
1. Ford Racing Accessory -- 2 Ford GT Coolant Overflow Caps (part# M-8006-GT), still sealed in their original boxes. These retailed for around $40 when new and I see them listed on eBay for around $80. I'll sell for $70 each or $125 for both, plus shipping. See thread about it here: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...me-Filler-Caps?highlight=Coolant+overflow+cap and photos of it here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-2006-...ant-Overflow-or-Intercooler-Cap-/372269005721

2. Ford Racing Accessory -- Ford GT Oil Fill Cap (part# M-6766-GT), still sealed in its original box. See picture of it here: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6766-gt Offered for $55 plus shipping.

3. Ford Racing Accessory -- Ford GT Shift Knob with sleeve (part# M-7213-GT), still sealed in its original box, with box still in its original bubble wrap. See photo here: http://www.chicagoconnection.us/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5924 Discussion thread here: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...Shifter-knob?highlight=Ford+Racing+shift+knob I can't find one available anywhere but these are pretty cool and hard to come by. I'll let it go for $200 plus shipping.

4. Ford Racing Accessory -- Ford GT Metal Chrome Billet Aluminum License Plate Frame (part# M-1828-GTC), still sealed in its original box. see it here: http://www.chicagoconnection.us/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=5643 These were $26 new and I can't find one that's available now. Part of me thinks I should throw it on the new Ford GT, but it's still brand new and if someone wants it for $50 plus shipping you can have it.

5. Ford Racing Accessory -- 2 Ford GT Seat Covers (part# M-6360004-GT), still sealed in original box. Black, 100% cotton with "Ford GT" embroidered at headrest level. You can see photos here: https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-6360004-GT and thread here: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...Sale?highlight=Ford+Racing+Ford+GT+Seat+Cover Sold for $250 new. I'll let them go for $300 plus shipping.

6. Ford GT Team Yearbook -- These are very rare and provide unique documentation about the process of making the 2005-2006 Ford GT. You can see a thread about them here: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...actory-Photos?highlight=Ford+GT+Team+Yearbook and here: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...ook-on-E-BAY!?highlight=Ford+GT+Team+Yearbook (where it's noted the eBay price was $598...in 2008). I've got 2, mint condition, and I'll let them go for $550 each or $1000 for both.

7. 2005 Ford GT Portfolio -- These were supposed to be included with every 2005 Ford GT purchase, but most dealer sales staff absconded with them and sold them on eBay. I've got a shrink wrapped copy going with my car to the new owner, but another one that's still in the sealed shipping carton (heavy cardboard to protect the shrink-wrapped book inside). These were very cool, with high-quality paper stock and moveable pieces to showcase the Ford GT's features. Think of it as the ultimate pop-up book about the 2005-2006 Ford GT. There's one on eBay now with a $149 "buy it now" price: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2005-FORD-GT-OWNERS-PORTFOLIO-BOOK-NEW-ORIGINAL-FORD-/142341750375 and another one on FordShowParts.com for $85, and I'm assuming it wouldn't be listed if it wasn't in stock... http://www.fordshowparts.com/store_contents.cfm?store_id=1&dept_id=981&product_id=6953 Dave said they were worth $160 back in 2007: http://www.fordgtforum.com/forums/s...rtfolio-Book?highlight=Ford+GT+Portfolio+book I'll let mine go for $80 plus shipping.

8. Original Ford GT40 Press Kit from the 2002 Detroit Auto Show where the concept car debuted, before Ford was committed to making it a production car. They are listed on eBay for between $75 and $115, but some have sold for as low as $17 (not sure what condition that one was in...). https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Ford+GT40+press+kit&_sacat=0 Includes a CD with a bunch of cool photos from the GT40 concept's development and the original GT40. I'll sell mine (in very good shape) for $50.

Congratulations, and sorry, Karl. It has been a pleasure over the years reading about your GT adventures. Looking forward to more of that with your new one! Please put me down for the Ford GT portfolio and one of the Ford GT team yearbooks.

You got it. PM me your address and I’ll send ‘em out.

Also, I’ve got an understanding with the buyer for potential buy-back in the next 2-4 years. We’ll see if I can swing it. The new one should provide plenty of grist for publishing stories in the meantime. :thumbsup

Ugh...painful I won't be able to do that my 2019 car...but still grateful for the time I did have. Driving the cars back-to-back is amazing...

In my first reply to your post, I said that I would like the portfolio book. Or were you selling two of those, also?

Sorry, I thought you switched from one yearbook to two. Now I see you added the second yearbook to the portfolio book and one yearbook, meaning they are all sold to you!

Thanks Clint!

Portfolio book is gone.

GT40 Concept Press Kit and Ford GT shift knob and sleeve are still available.

Press kit is gone, but Ford GT shift knob is still available. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-7213-gt

Also, I should mention I still have two Ford GT seats. However, I've discovered the driver's seat base has stress cracks. The passenger seat is perfect and everything on the driver's seat except the carbon fiber base (on the underside, where it attaches to the seat tracks) is in excellent shape (all the leather looks great). Anyway, given the damage to the driver's seat base I'm willing to let both seats go for $3,000. Shipping will be pricey but local pick-up in Southern California would be easy.

It’s almost like there’s a highly targeted market here AJ... :wink

I’ll let the shift knob go for $150.

Dammit, Karl. Didn't know you were giving up the old girl for a new one. Hope she brings as much joy as big blue.
