So Cal
For those of you who did the subwoofer delete to the speaker box behind the passenger seat, did the quality of the sound suffer ?
Thanks

What sound quality? What subwoofer? There's a radio in the GT?

Ditto...

Sound? I moved th mac to see the passengers :rofl

Actually I think it sounds better whenever I do listen to music.

Send a PM to SteveA. He slightly modified his kit, and I don't know if makes a difference over the normal relocation kit, but it sounds much better behind the seat than it does where it was previously located. It doesn't really make sense acoustically to put a sub on a flat surface with nothing on either side.

I got the base stereo, so the only music I listen to is the DOHC kind. :banana

Has anyone had bad reception on non Mac cars? I have a customer complaining about poor radio reception and am wondering if it is normal on those.

Quality of the Mac is fine, reception is very poor...

The relocated sub sound quality is excellent. The view of the supercharger and passenger is likewise greatly improved (although variable depending upon who's in the passenger seat). As I said before, if I could only make one change to the car, relocating the Mac sub/amp would be that change.

Oh, and I am compelled to add that such mod would not have been possible were it not for the dedication and professionalism of Shadowman.

The Sub standard.

Gentlemen,

I was told before I did my sub relocation that it would sound and feel better. I was skeptical. But better sound or not, I wanted to get rid of the giant speaker. After my sub relocation, it did sound and feel better. In my home I have a Bose lifestyle stereo system, it's the one with the tiny little jewel cube speakers (about 2 inches square) that are visible, and a subwoofer that can be hidden anywhere in the room buried behind a piece of furniture so that it is not visible. The sound quality is amazing. Since bass is non-directional it does not matter where it comes from BUT, Bose advises that it's lifestyle subwoofer should be placed in a corner of the room facing the wall, into a corner, or into a piece of furniture. I don't know why that makes it sound better, but it does. Perhaps having the base note strike the wall or furniture enables you to feel it or helps it resonate around the room. Probably for the same reason, relocating the GT subwoofer behind the seat makes it sound better as well. As there are several of us with this modification it would be educational to play your favorite CD in your unmodified car and then play it in a GT that has had the sub relocation. Then, you be the judge. :thumbsup

Ditto to what Chip, ACR and Bony said. It sounds better, the FM reception is ok at best and AM is pert near useless. CD's and the I-pod work great.

Add one more vote to the "sounds better" group.

So when people do the sub relo, why does everyone (seem to) re-use the sub speaker that came with the car? Seems that an aftermarket 'tube' type would be easier to fit behind the rear seat w/o custom cases, etc. I presume that the amp has to be preserved - because it runs all the speakers (?) but that seems more straightforward. Surely it can't be for the sound quality. There's too much other sweet DOHC music going on in there to really matter.
So, on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is 'a complete nutcase', how confused am I? :)

Thanks guys for the great replies. it would be nice to experience this first hand. Anyone in the So. Cal area that have the sub delete done cares to meet up ?

More the merrier.

So when people do the sub relo, why does everyone (seem to) re-use the sub speaker that came with the car? The Mac sub has been designed and engineered to work within the system - the sound is great. Change the sub and who knows how the sound quality might be effected. Seems that an aftermarket 'tube' type would be easier to fit behind the rear seat w/o custom cases, etc. Because most subs are far larger. A few powered units are close in size and workable but then there's new wiring to deal with and questionable sound quality. This is as close to an OEM solution as you can get (in fact anyone that's seen the system believes that it is OEM). I presume that the amp has to be preserved - because it runs all the speakers (?) but that seems more straightforward. Surely it can't be for the sound quality. There's too much other sweet DOHC music going on in there to really matter.

When I relocated I looked for another speaker - I couldn't find a 9" low profile speaker ANYWHERE!. Another goal - preserve original so I sweated the original conenctors to the Shadowman and ACR Speaker Box and relo kit.

I can convert back to stock in ~45 minutes. Same AMP and same speaker, better sound!

Just re-mounted the existing AMP - not a total redesign. If thats the target good luck!

YES - What he said.

Ask Shadowman how "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE" by Jerry Lee Lewis sounds using his sub-relocation kit late at night in a warehouse somewhere in Southern California. :eek :lol :lol :eek

Thank You Shadowman. :thumbsup
