McIntosh/iPod Stereo Question

I burn mp3's onto a CD-R (not a CD+R). They work fine in the GT. That would be my guess Frank.

I was using CD+RW's. Off to get a pack of -R's. Thanks fellas, although, with the ipod hookup, my 2000 songs last a long time. Most people won't take long rides with me, and Bony banned ELO at Indy from my player.

Haven't listened to ELO in years. I really liked 'Face the Music'. Guess I'm gonna hafta dust off the CD and go for a cruise.

They had a great stage show back in the '70's. :cool

ELO Banned, say it's not so:frown

Yeah I would rather have 2,000 songs. will try to get the tool using the part number listed. Can someone confirm that is the one for the MAC.

As for the Tunecast , I have tired just one other ( not tunecast) and was not real happy with it in my daily driver, it kept losing the signal. here is LA is hard to find a blank station. It may be blank for part of the drive, then it start to pick-up something. No issues when I am in the rural areas though. I do think the direct sound is cleaner though.

My favorite is Mr. Blue Sky. Bony didn't appreciate it in the garage blaring. I feel it really gives you the dynamic range of the Mac system.

Bony has pictures :-)

Wally,

The PT# 415-003 as indicated by Mike [MAD IN NC], is correct.:thumbsup

MP3 for FGT

Mark06GT - Thanks for the info on the MP3 wireless system. I've tried them & the sound quality is not as good as a direct wire system. Also you're depending on the strength of the FM station whereas on the direct wire system you can be in a tunnel & have awesome digital quality.

Tunecast

You're right, the quality will never be as good as something wired in. I was just thowing out an option for something quick and cheap.

The radio removal tool part number is 415-003. It is unique. I went to the stero store and tried a et of Clarion tools (they own Macintossh) and all they did was cut the crap out of my fingers.

The instruction suck. The little chrome radio bexels pull off by pulling forward!

How do the knobs come off on the MAC. Anyone know ?

They pull straight off, but that is unnecessary, as the head unit is "whole" and can only be removed by releasing the side retaining clips with the special tool.

So somebody said the Mcintosh unit plays MP3s if burned to a CD-r ? Or did I read that wrong ?

Incorrect

I have had no trouble burning Itunes files to a CD and playing it in the MAC. CDR does work in mine. Other have said it does not work. Give it a try, maybe a diff in the MACs mine is a 05 #2005.

Wally, You have a PM. Frank

The MAC won't play straight mp3 tunes (compressed as a data file). They have to be reformatted back into an audio file in order to play. Thus you can't get the 150+ mp3 tunes crammed onto a CD-R to play. You can only get about 13 max standard audio tunes per CD-R.

A CD-R will play. I haven't tried a CD+R though.

Itunes exports the file back to CD in the proper CD format as part of the program. Other programs do not convert MP3 back to the proper audio file.
