Hello,

I've made a deal to purchase my first Ford GT! It's a very well cared for 2006, and I'm planning to road trip it home from WI to FL with my 11 year old son. I'm buying it from the same person I bought my '91 NSX from in 2017, and we're repeating almost the same road trip we did then. We're planning to tour Road America, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the National Corvette Museum (we'll just miss the factory tours reopening by a few days), and drive the Tail of the Dragon.

For the radio, I'd like to install the JL audio bluetooth module long term, but I'm thinking of just installing a simple RCA to USB-C adapter for the trip. I'm guessing that's a pretty quick install using the McIntosh radio keys to slide the head unit out, and connect the RCA's? Any other solutions you all have tried?

For a cupholder, I have a few of the Ultimate Cup holders in my other cars, and I saw a thread on modifying one of those here, but I haven't been able to reach them to order one.... I like to get up at 4am on the weekends and drive my cars when there's no traffic, so I like having a good holder for my coffee bottle. I have a 430 Scuderia that I retrofitted the Rennline cup holder that mounts to the front bolt of the inner passenger seat rail.

Thanks,

David

You MIGHT be able to get to the "line in" RCA's with out pulling the head unit (and risking any scratches). Some cars they are accessible some are not.

Welcome to the forum, as I see that was your 1st post. Enjoy the trip!

I road tripped my GT after buying it from a guy who had an 1st gen NSX (as I do and so do a number of GT owners...Roger).
Where in Florida? I just did a 1,400 mile round trip with curated CDs and the sounds of the Heffner H-pipe.

Congratulations and enjoy your new ride. The GT center console and radio surround are easy to scratch, so use lots of painters tape. I would do CDs, as the radio removal and install is not a super simple job I would want to do on the road. Best music is the sound of a 32 valve supercharged V8 anyway.

id be interested in an ultimate cup holder solution.

for music i use the JBL bluetooth adapter like many of us have here

Congrats on the new GT! 🍻 For the radio, at least temporarily for your trip (if not permanently if it turns out to be sufficient) you could pop one of these little $14 devices in your GT's 12V power port and bluetooth anything on your phone thru your GT's stereo. They work pretty well. Not the highest of hi-fi, but not too bad. I've been using one in my GT since 2021. And you can still charge your devices with it https://www.amazon.com/Nulaxy-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Assistant-Handsfree/dp/B0DZXB5Q4F

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'll post some pictures of the trip afterwards.....

If I go the route of the RCA's that would be nice to be able to reach them without taking the radio out on the road...

The NSX is a fun little car. I'm not a big mod guy, but I did the SOS supercharger, JDM short gears, type R final drive, LWF, shocks, etc. It turnd out great, and looks stock beside 17/18" wheels and modern bridgestones. I used to do a lot of club racing, and my favorite thing to do with the street cars is to get up super early on the weekends and bomb around my local roads. I'm in Orlando. I've done the "curated" CD route before, so I could just take those. It's about 24 hrs of drive time though......

I'll watch out for the tunnel and surrounding stuff....

I really like the Ultimate cup holder solution, but I can't seem to get hold of Mike.... I have his cup holders in 3 of my cars and they work well.

Here is what I did in my scud: It won't let me drag and drop a jpeg into the text, and when I go to insert image, it only lets me do it as a URL?

On the bluetooth transmitter, I didn't know the McIntosh radios would accept a bluetooth connection from stock? I thought it just did radio, cd, and Aux through the menu. If that's the case, then I'll just do that for the ride home, and install one of the JBL bluetooth adapters after I get it home....

Unfortunately it won't. With the $14 device I linked, you Bluetooth connect your phone and the device, and the device transmits a very low power FM signal that your McIntosh can receive. Works pretty darn good for being inexpensive and very quick to pop in. When I get in my GT I pop the device into the 12V power port and in a few seconds it announces "Bluetooth connect" thru my GT's speakers and plays music from my phone.

Ive used the bluetooth-fm adapter too. The only problem i had was on long road trips the fm station it was on could be a real local frequency and I'd have to find a new one

Yes it's possible that an FM broadcast station can interfere with whatever frequency you have the adapter tuned to, to where you need to try a different frequency, although so far in almost 4 years using mine I haven't heard any interference and haven't needed to switch frequencies; prob just lucky.

I ordered that FM tuner. That should work great for the trip home, and then I can do the bluetooth install later.

Thanks!

I still can't figure out how to post a picture; maybe I don't have enough posts yet? Anyway, I am able to post a link to a thread on Fchat where I showed pictures of the Rennline cup holder for Porsches that I was able to easily retrofit to the manual seat rail of my scud, and think I should be able to do the same with the FGT once I have it and can see how it's laid out.
